engine mounts

Post by kantsas »

i swear the other day i heard a strange clunk creaking noise come from the engine the other day.
now whenever i change gear i feel a clunk come through the pedals and sometime i feel the vibration through the steering. if i go over a bump i feel a similar clunk.
i was told it was a broken engine mount in another topic.
i have tried to investigate the mounts on my daewoo LANOS i can see two at the front one on left and right. i can see a pivot like one on the bottom back. where are the others....

how many mounts are there?? so far the three i see seem ok.

ps. the engine seems secure, not much movement atall

as im driving down the road, lets say i go from 1st to 2nd to 3rd as i lift up the clutch and as i release and press on the gas, i feel a clunk. which i am almost certain i never had before. i have looked above and around at the mounts i can see, two at the front and a big one underneath and i cannot see any faults.. what else could it be?? i must admit i think it is the engine, but i cant get any movement out of it. the only way i feel the clunk is while driving so i cannot test it. if i go over a bump i feel the rattling clunk aswell.

i just wanna isolate it so i can say the garage its def that. and plus i find it interesting

so bascially BosnianLanos i was wondering if you feel very sure that mounts are the problem, cause im gonna call me garage to check them.. is there anything i need to look for first?

I am fairly confident, maybe 80%, that engine mounts are your problem.

The only way you would feel feedback through your pedals or steering wheel is if they were moving in response to the engine moving. The clunking noise also makes me think I'm on the right track.

Take it to the garage, it shouldn't cost anything for them to check it out.

maybe its just somethin else if ur sure that ur mounts are ok, maybe its the exhaust pipe hitting ur bottom car or something cuz the rubber lifters are not fine

Of course anything is possible.

But...
I can tell you from my experience with a broken lanos front motor mount.

There is no way you can see if the hard rubber part of it is cracked until you remove the mount.
Its a pretty easy job replacing the front one..I have not done a rear one.

AutoZone can order them (overnight shipping) for you.
Not expensive at all.

+1

another way that might help is to lift the engine with a jac... it is not that good way of checking and it only works on the front mounts... the tranny mount near the fire wall has to be removed to be checked, and the other tranny mount might be deseaving
