Original air intake is cracked in two places

Post by insomni4k »

I have a 1999 1.5 SOHC Lanos (Canadian)

The air intake tubing is cracked in two places. I was thinking of replacing it
with something like this (as I can't seem to find an original one!)
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Weapon-R-Short-Ram-I ... dZViewItem

I read a few posts here regarding this sri but couldn't find a post clearly stating it would fit on a 1.5 SOHC lanos..

Some of you have also suggesting using one for a CIVIC. can anyone recommend a kit that would be easy to fit?
(any year of civic close to the 1.5 lanos???)

Thanks for you help

Thanks guys, I really appreciate what you guys do on this site. I've been occasionnaly logging in for the last two years, and the info is invaluable

MMamdouh, I found one for a 1.6 DOHC in a scrap yard, but it was different... missing about two inches to fit correctly. maybe the canadian build is different?

woodae, do you have any pics of your installation? I've been browsing Ebay trying to find something for a 91 integra, but they all seem different
in style. I obviously wants things to be as easy as possible. If I don't have to do any cutting, i'd be happy. I don't mind a few tie wraps :)
Here are a few links I found, can you give me your opinion on these?

daewoomofo, do you mind if I PM you for more info?
It's so easy to get scammed on ebay, I want to make sure I get something nice and relatively easy to install...

quick and easy, make a box that will fit out of cardboard, than giberglass it. Takes a few hours in the evening to build. will be ready bye the next morning before work and you can gloat about having something "custom". And when you have time sand and paint it.

ilike your thinking, seperating the air coming into the motor from the engine bay is the best way to go but i think they are talking more about the piping.

also the best way to build this seperater is by using a a sheet of ABS plastic and a propane torch or heat gun to form the bends needed. then you can get waether stripping to mount to the top to seal it from the engine bay.

gse_turbo, I was indeed talking about the original piping that is cracked....
to be honest, I've never done any mods to my daewoo... that's why I have so many questions on fitting :)

most Autozone, O'Rielly, Checker and Advance Auto's carry APC intake tube and filter kits. normally i wouldn't recommend using APC parts but they really couldn't mess this up. you should be able to go to one of these places and test fit what they have in stock.

you are talking about OEM rubber hose now... right??

the OEM from a 1.6 DOHC won't fit a 1.5 SOHC... OK the TB side will fit with no problems but the pipe itself will be shorter as you mentioned due to the fact that the 1.6 DOHC intake is bigger and much closer to the airbox than in the 1.5 SOHC

i thought you were talking about SRI so i told you that the 1.5 SOHC and 1.6 DOHC are the same.

Thanks MMamdouh, yeah I meant the OEM rubber hose....
but I *did* ask about the SRI, since it will probably be cheaper
than replacing the entire oem hose..

well, since I know it will be identical at the TB end, I'll just order the SRI for the integra....

Now.. one LAST, LAST question...
for Lanos 1.5 SOHC, what is easier, and best fit.. short ram for integra GSR 94? or for integra 91? :)
They seem a LOT different
Thanks again
