A friend of mine works at a local car dealership and called me today...they took a 92 camaro in on trade. It's a 305 v8 and auto tranny. It needs a driver side front fender and rear lower quarter panel and a paint job and a new headliner and a new passenger window and windshield. I believe the passenger ttop is leaking as well...however they are kind of making me a deal I can't refuse...$400 is the asking price my friend thanks he can get it for around 200. I've been looking for a second woo to drive but this is gonna work even better.
It would mean holding off on my woo for a while. But it would also be a v8 just like my first camaro and the whole car is identical except for the rear spoiler and the color of the car. It's also really easy to get performance parts for it, so for what it's costing for my pistons for the woo I'll be able to stroke the motor to 335 cubic inches and push about 250 hp.
I'm gonna try to pick it up next friday...I'll post pics if I get it. I also figure it will make me a nice daily driver when I'm workin on the woo.
Oh, and when I say fixing it would be cheap... stroking the motor would cost around 1000...and the motor actually runs really well and the tranny shifts smooth...it just looks like crap right now. So, I figure all said and done I can have it looking decent and running pretty well for around 2500 dollars.
Opinions?

dont bother with stroking the 305, they are good engines, with alot of low end torque, but if you want power drop in a 350 or 400. i grew up working on small block chevys so i know my shit. even with a mild 350 you will EASLY get 300 hp, one thing to worry about is the fact that that s a unibody car with t-tops, if you put any decent amount of power into it, you can very easly twist the unibody "frame". even with the frame connectors its still an issue. but for $400 thats a hell of a deal
Daewoomofo: Thanks...yeah I grew up with the chevy small blocks too. My uncles have had chevy race cars for as long as I can remember...and my dad decided my first car would be a v8 camaro... It was actually a 88 model without t tops and with the same 305 this car has and the same options list. My dad and I rebuilt the 305 in it and used a mild cam and I thought it was great fun. I know the 350 is overall a better design with the stroke length and cylinder bore ratio being better for making power and better heads etc. available...but I want to keep cost down on the camaro so I'll probably just rering it and put in new valve seats/seals for now. If I do put in a 350, I've never put a 350 from the 4th gen camaros into a 3rd gen so I may have to ask you a few q's if I decide to find a late model 350 engine (which I prefer because of the horsepower of the stock 350 from 93 on). I don't think 300 hp would be too much for the frame with subframe connectors but I may put in a roll bar or roll cage just to give it a little more rigidity.
I'm excited about this car but don't get me wrong...this car needs ALOT of work. So, It'll be a while before it is decent enough to drive everyday. One thing I like is the fact I do have to rebuild the car cause I can do it right and now worry about previous work which may be less than up to par.
Oh, well. We'll see when I get it next Friday what my plans turn into.
