u20sed power output
Hi
I' m looking for a u20sed swap and from what i read it can be found in optra/reno/forenza
The problem is i am in canada and according to the canada gm site the optra is 119hp ad the us version is 126hp
anyone here know what is the difference between those because it would be a lot easier to get an engine here i canada but only if it can recover its 7hp without too much trouble
I guess it may be cause by different ecu programming and if its the case can I use a canadian engine with an amercian ecu?
thanks for any info

those are good questions and ill have to look into it more before answering most.
have you considered the 99-03 daewoo leganza 2.2? factory rated at 134-140 something like that.
if you're not interested in the 2.2 maybe consider the 99-03 daewoo nubi 2.0 you might be able get the older engine and make up the shipping difference from the states.

There is no different between the CA and US U20SED...Chris tried one of the US ecu's on his optra and noticed no different. We think they rated the optra lower so it wouldnt look as competitive to the cobalt.
I picked up a U20SED with 3,800k miles on it for $800 shipped with some other interior peices the seller had.

other question...I read that our tranny(D16?) would fit to the u20sed but can it handle the power because of course I would like to boost the 2.0L a little(or a lot lol) the D20 is supposed to be stronger so in that case it would be a better choice but anyone know if it can be used, dont tell me everything can be done I KNOW THAT :P I would just like to know what i would need to do shoud i choose the D20 in the vent the D16 couldn't take that much punishment

I'm not sure if It can be but I wouldn't even bother unless it bolted right up and you used the D16 while trying to source a D20. Even some of the D20s have been giving the guys making good power outta the cars.MitchPower wrote:other question...I read that our tranny(D16?) would fit to the u20sed but can it handle the power because of course I would like to boost the 2.0L a little(or a lot lol) the D20 is supposed to be stronger so in that case it would be a better choice but anyone know if it can be used, dont tell me everything can be done I KNOW THAT :P I would just like to know what i would need to do shoud i choose the D20 in the vent the D16 couldn't take that much punishment

If you are planning to go for boost, I would get the strongest tranny you can. I have a D20 in my boosted Optra, and I literally ripped the gears apart from too much torque. (At the time it broke, I estimate I was putting down 260 - 270 ft lbs at the wheels). So if the D16 is weaker than that, I really don't see much potential for it.MitchPower wrote:other question...I read that our tranny(D16?) would fit to the u20sed but can it handle the power because of course I would like to boost the 2.0L a little(or a lot lol) the D20 is supposed to be stronger so in that case it would be a better choice but anyone know if it can be used, dont tell me everything can be done I KNOW THAT :P I would just like to know what i would need to do shoud i choose the D20 in the vent the D16 couldn't take that much punishment

Another stock D20, I've just had to detune the car to keep it at 200ft lbs torque for now (the safe limit for D20). I would like to get a F28 tranny (6 spd) which is supposedly good for 280 ft lbs, but they are rare and usually only found overseas in Europe. There is also some work required to convert it from 4WD to FWD and from cable clutch to hydrualic clutch for the Optra.MitchPower wrote:and what tranny are you using now?
