Hey guys, I need some help!
2000 Lanos 1.6 Auto
Check engine light has been on for some time, it comes up as a cam pos code. I replaced the sensor with a new Aveo sensor, and reset the code with a scantool. The code popped back up within 1 minute of run time. I have had the recall inspection and the old cam pos was not in the recall #'s.
Any ideas??
I need to get the code cleared to pass state inspection.

The low voltage message was the same I was getting before I had the recall work done. Which actually wasn't so much a problem with the cam sensor itself as it needed a fuse in the line to the cam position sensor. If I were you, I would call Daewoo directly and have them look up your VIN number. Some shops will tell you it's not under recall even if it is simply because they don't want to do the work.

They spliced the wire up near the Cam Position Sensor, they changed out the one that was in there and replaced it with a different one as well, but the fuse is only a couple inches from the sensor. Sadly it's wrapped in electrical tape and I don't want to unwrap it, so I don't know what size fuse they used or what the wiring changes are. I'm sure if you ask Daewoo, they might be willing to provide you the instructions they give dealers on how to make the repair if your Woo doesn't fall under the recall for some odd reason.woohoo4u wrote:Thanks for the insite, I have emailed Deawoo and am awaiting their reply.

Here is the email I sent to Daewoo and their reply:
I own a 2000 lanos with about 85000 miles. I am emailing in regards to the cam position sensor recall NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 04V357000 and NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 04V394000
I had my sensor checked (at approx 80000 miles) at Modern Chevrolet in Winston-Salem, NC and according to their report it was not affected by the recall ( I have smelled a burning type smell, but the sensor looked to be unharmed, it may be the wiring?). Here is my dilemma, the check engine light has been on for quite some time (since 64,589 miles), when I checked it with a scantool it comes up with a low voltage to the cam position sensor. I have, since going to the dealership, bought a new sensor and installed it, cleared the code with a scantool and within 1 minute of run time the code reappeared. I was informed by some other lanos owners that the wiring harness to the cam sensor was a part of the recall and thus may be my problem. Modern Chevy has refused to cover this under the recall. Of which I feel it should be covered due to the fact it is mentioned in both campaigns.
Please help with this as the car will not pass state emissions with a check engine light on. My Vin is KLATA2267YB564498

Our recommendation would be to make an appointment with your nearest
Daewoo
location so that they can determine the cause of the problem you
described.
Please understand that the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) Recall is
focused
on a very specific number of CMP sensors that are within a very
specific Lot
Range. Only the CMP Sensors in the Lot Range have the potential to fail
in
the manner described in the recall notice you received and, therefore,
only
those CMP Sensors are subject to the recall. It is a fact that CMP
Sensors
can become inoperative for any number of other reasons. Within the
parameters of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (3 years or 36,000 miles
from
date of first use), CMP Sensors found to be defective are covered for
replacement. Beyond the terms of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty of 3
years
or 36,000 miles of use, CMP Sensor replacement is the customers
responsibility unless the Lot Range number on the CMP Sensor is part of
the
recall action explained in the recall notice you received.

Well, whoever believes the Aveo cam sensor is a swap should think again. I installed another new sensor direct from daewoo and cleared the code, no more light. Unfortunately no more $84.95 for the dealership diagnostic, and no more $82 for the Daewoo sensor, and now I have a brand new Aveo sensor with less than 10 miles on it sitting in the toolbox...anyone know if it will bait fish??
