Lanos breather hose

Hi all, The breather hose on my 8v lanos is worn and I'm going to make a new one. The hose goes from the valve cover to the air intake trunking pipe and there is also a smaller diameter pipe that comes from the breather hose and connects to the side of the throttle body. What is the function of this smaller pipe and is it necessary? Thanks

Positive Crankcase Ventilation.

It basically keeps the oil fumes out of your engine bay and burns them up inside the engine.

All modern cars have it, infact my 1978 Austin Mini even has it.

the need of the oil vapor inside the intake manifold is making the inside walls of the manifold oily and every place the air passing through also, so that when very small diameter dust passing through the air filter, it could easially be caught on the oily walls before going inside the engine and make it easier to damage it or shorten it's life time.

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if it was just an environmental thing like the EGR valve that could be blanked off. I've got various size coolant hoses lying about so using a T connecter and some clips have now made a new breather hose.

environmental things also serve their purposes =)

the small hose you are reffering to is used to ventlate the oil vapour and gases at closed throttle... you can notice it is smaller as the vapour at idle is very low and it - the pipe - goes to a point after the TB as thats where the vacuum is at closed throttle.

Cheers bud. I forgot that it needs a route passed the TB when the throttle flap is shut. All sorted now. Also got some intake cleaner and gave the TB & idle valve a good going over. These are good little cars, over 110k miles on the clock and still running great.

I'd like to install a cranckcase breather to my Nexia and I'll have to cancel this pipe. Can I cancel the small pipe too?
