I used Bostik Super Gasket when I rebuilt the 1600 16v Turbo Lanos motor and had no leaks what so ever. So for my money, Silicon is the way to go.

on my car i think it is silicon too but the thing is the guys here sometimes mess the silicon gasket formation and cause a catastrophy.
i remeber my mechanic was servicing an engine that died due to oil starvation... the genius that applied silicon to the pan in an earlier service used way too much silicon that it "protruded" into the inside of the pan and fell into the oil and then clogged the oil path to the pump ---> dead engine.
bottom line: no body is bullshitting you mizomaster but it is a risk to put silicon by our "experts"...i'd stick with standard issue gasket.
