Wrecked Lanos
Well, I did it. I smashed my dad's new '02 Lanos into a minivan last Wednesday (May 28th '03).
Great.
He only had it a 2 weeks, only 1,100 miles on it, dropped it off at the dealer for service because the thermostat was sticking open and making the check engine light come on. It was ready for pickup the next day; fast warrenty service, no cost.
I picked up the car to take it to my dad, just as planned, and was not even a block away from the dealer, when the traffic suddenly stopped, I locked the wheels and slid on the wet roads (rain all day) right into the back of a 1995 Dodge Caravan.
The minivan's back bumper was higher than the front bumper of the Lanos, so the majority of the impact hit the grill and pushed everything back while the Lanos' front bumper went under the minivan's back bumper.
Smashed right side headlight, punctured radiator and A/C condensor and a crushed fan/shroud. The hood was bent back at a 90 degree angle and the right front fender was crumpled back to the rear edge of the headlight opening.
The air bags didn't go off, I guess because it was not all that hard of an impact.
Today, the insurance company called and said the car is totaled because the body shop can not get the parts; they said they are just not available.
I called the body shop and talked to the shop manager and gave him the phone number and information for the Daewoo parts supply distributor in Puerto Rico, which was not affected by the GM/Daewoo problem in the U.S. Since Puerto Rico is a US territory, there are no problems getting parts shipped from there. We are waiting to hear back if A) They can get the parts and B) if the insurance company will allow buying the parts from there.
So far, this whole week has sucked.

The parts supplier in PR never returned any voice mails.
We ended up totaling the car, buying it back from the insurance company and retitling it so it could be repaired with used parts.
I found a 2000 Lanos with a perfact body, but a damaged engine (I think the timing blet broke and dropped the valves into the pistons).
The whole car was $1200 US and 3 hours drive away, so we hooked up the trailor, drove up & got it.
The car is currently at a friend's garage who does paint & body work, and he is taking all the parts off the 2000 and putting them on the new car.
So far, all is going well.
The insurance company gave us a check for $4500, so we actually made money of the car getting wrecked.

Sure! I'll post pics of the car when we get it back.
I found out today that the left side A-arm was bent in the wreck, too, but he will have it straight and back in place by tomorrow. If he can not straighten it, he will get the one off the parts car.
I'll be making a page with pics of my 2 Woos, my fiance's Lanos, & my father's Lanos (the wrecked one).
My fiance has a stereo system in hers, blue neon lights inside the driver's side & passanger's side foot wells & a few things getting upgraded all the time.

I got back from the body shop today and the whole front end has been replaced with parts taken from my parts car.
The bumper, right fender & hood are still off the car as they have not yet been painted.
All the mechanical, air conditioning & cooling has been fixed/replaced and the car is drivable again.
We should have the car back in the next week or so.
When it is back, I'll get pics of the repair work that has been done under the hood and post them on here.
