Poor to Nil FM Radio Reception

Hi

1998 Lanos hatch, replaced the antenna with a genuine Daewoo replacement, after the fitment the performance of the radio has gone to the birds, nil to very poor FM reception and poor to fair AM reception....

I have had it in and out a couploe of times to make surte all was fitted correctly, even got another antenna to make sure it was not that, no result.

Any ideas...thanks

make sure its not set to local on the stereo controls

Is it one with a integrated amplifier? If so you have to power it by 12V. Some are fed by a extra cable. Other through the coax.

Integrated? AFAIK no it is not.

Just the coax cable to the antenna....new antenna was /is same as the old one...both that I tried...

there is a button on the stereo that says LOC which will set it to only local stations and that sux and would limit all your reception

make sure the antenna is properly grounded.

LOC is not the issue, turned off or on makes not difference.....ground the antenna? how do I make ensure it is grounded correctly.

AFAIR the antenna assembly isbasicly two parts jined to gether with the bolt on the top... if you niced the lower part it will have some kinda "teeth" to bite the inner side of the metal, i recon if the teeth are dirty or the metal in the antenna hole is rusty or oily it can make bad contact and ruin the antenna's job.

it is just a thought... i am not all that expert in antennas and electrical stuff but this sounds like a logical explanation as your old antenna was doing OK before you removed it... right?

Here is what I would like to explain. Sometime the words doesn't come at time. Bbbbbbrain age, perhaps.

You can have amplified antenna with a separate 12V power cable as on model UA30.
Or power through coax cable like the UA40.
Hope they didn't sell you model UA30L.

MMamdouh.....yep was working fine...fitted the genuine replacement and very very p[oor to nil FM from then...

Daniel....older antenna had been snapped off when fully extended...so from that point was useless....the antenna suppioed looked the same as the old one...it was supplied at the time from a Daewoo dealer her in Australia...

Just had it out and in again...all "seems " to be grounded...stuffed if I know....

Maybe you got a defective antenna. Since you said the antenna was snapped off when fully extended I believe it's a side mounted model, not a roof one. Right?
Try to do the following: disconnect the car antenna cable from the antenna. Connect and extend a lenght (+/-1m) of wire to the center contact (pin) of the car antenna cable and listen to your radio. If you have a fairly good reception than:
-or you got a defective antenna with a broken/shorted inside connexion.
-or this antenna is a amplified model that need to be powered through the coax cable, since you said there is only one cable.

Thanks for the suggestions I will try them and get back to you all in a few days....can only get to the car in the vening as its away during the day...

and yes it is side mounted one.....lh rear quarter....
