BAHHHH So...
It's official, all my friends have written off my car... saying it's not even worth my time... saying "its unique, but i wouldnt fix it up if i were you" soo... I'm at a crossroads... I always have appreciated their advice, it's always been good... but on this, i really don't think i'm going to take it... I love my car... yes its got big problems at the moment.. huge dent, two tone color, needs new exhaust... but it's got redeeming features too... but they don't want to listen to them... the main one is... I LIKE THE CAR... Their relentless efforts to convert me to a 240sx/AE86 guy has done exactly the opposite... I no longer WANT one of those cars and now want to keep the daewoo and fix it... to prove to them... That daewoo isn't a crap brand that should be written off...
I'm altogether tired of nay sayers that get their information from some old man whose timing belt broke because he didn't want to change it...
I just want to say... Daewoo cars are NOT junk cars... They ahve some characteristics that would make you THINK they're junk... but they're not... sure the window regulators aren't that great... and the upholstry can be pretty ugly (looks at the lanos' w/ amazingly colorful fabrics) but in general if you take care of it... it will last you... just as long is not longer than any other brand of car...
I really want to make my car a project, so i asked my friends tonight if i should go NA or Turbo... and right away i got a "buy a 240" answer i'm tired of that answer, and no longer will ask them for advise on my car...
So guys... what do YOU think... NA or Forced Induction? Realize now that your opinions will weigh greatly on my build from here on out... and that I'm completely done listening to my buddies saying "cut your losses"

I wouldnt worry about what your mates say mate if you like your car thats what counts i had the same issue before i started doing up my car people would say things, then when i started doing up different things to it like the body kit and then the turbo then people started looking and overall i love my lanos so go with your thoughts and do your car up man.

ive been in the same situation fro a long time, every one says "its a daewoo, why would you fix the POS up" i say if you want to, then go for it, and on the turbo or NA ideas, what do you want to do, have a nice everyday car, or a race car. if you go high hp in NA, it might not be good for every day, where as if you go turbo yo can go with low boost and have a car that will be fun fast, and reliable. i say go turbo!
go with your instincts and don't listen to your friends... i still miss my '72 VW beetle to this moment

yeah same here everyone dogged me at the strip because of its a woo. but i started to run the bracket races in an auto and almost smoked everyone even a sti and that was 4 years ago and still going strong. trust me go with your gut feeling. ppl will start giving you props just because its very unique. and its not as easy to tune up like hondas thats why im modifying it because its a little bit of a challenge. and yea your probably not going to get your moneys worth when you go to sell it but thats the life of car enthusists. as far as forced induction id go with a supercharger at least you wouldnt have as muck lag as with a turbo. they both have their pros and cons and aggain thats up to you. what all do you want to do to your car? id start with making it breath better (intake header(if you can find it) and exhaust), then id start from the ground up: ex. rims, struts, springs then the engine. im making my car a street car. what do you want to do to yours?

Good point, i should start by explaining what i would like...
I want a streetable car that can handle and has some power under the hood, it doesn't have to be crazy high like 350+hp, but more than i have now would be nice... say around 180-220hp...
i've already got eibach springs (need to get some better struts) also have the rims i want... as for the rest of anything, i really don't know where to start, you said exhaust/headers, and that was my next choice... I was thinking of mopac's pistons he has in the classifieds, but i still dunno if i wanted boost or n/a, although from what i'm hearing boost is the way to go for a street car...
heres a list of things i know i want to do...
orciari body kit
rims**
exhaust
cai or sri
suspension
5sp conversion
reupholster the interior (seats are ripping =/ )
New stereo/speakers (doesn't have to be amazing just better than stock)
Paint (preferably black or a dark blue)
the rest is upgrading performance which i'm asking you all about because i don't know where the best place to start would be =) and i know this all wont happen over night... but after about 4-5 weeks from now, i'll have a new exhaust on the nubi again and she will be moving again instead of sitting because she barely runs... as for the exhaust, i was thinking about buying a magnaflow muffler, and having a shop do all the piping for that... after that... after i do the exhast i'd move on to other things like preventative maintenence (timing belt, plugs, plug wires)
then after that i'm lost... where would be the best starting point after the exhast and stuff... i've already read alll about a lot of stuff from turbos to n/a but need help deciding which way to go...
all input is greatly appricated...
a woo that is a work in progress
IMO it depends on how much money you are willing to put towards this. Turbo is great, but I know thats not cheap....... its worth it to me tho. If you do go for turbo, its best to plan stuff ahead and research up on what you want to do and price it out.

for struts id go with kyb's they are not that expensive but they work wonders . and your car would ride like a brick also to compiment try to find a strut bar. as for rims id go with 17". right now i have 15" but plan on getting 17" they are good for the track i think. when you start doing your maintainance stuff (spark plugs and wires) try to get those aftermarket. when you go to buy the spark plugs stay with the same heatand dont go with those fancy four prong plugs. and with the wires just get a bigger gauge wire. after that go id get a grounding kit. after youve done all that with your intake exhaust and the other stuff i mentoinedwork on the head there is a lot i mean a lot of horse power you can achieve there. what im gonna do is before i get it port and pollished im going to start buying new valvetrain. here let me find a post real quick to help you more dang sure pointed me in the right direction hold on....... http://www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtop ... highlight=
check that out it might help you out too. also definately run royal purple for oil. and also try running a higher octain also i run 91 and it works really well. also when you start working on the performance dont forget to work on the cooling and the ignition. and on the trannie im not sure if its the same as the lanos, but if it is there is a lot of trannie upgrades for it and it would be a real pain in the a$$ to do the swap. hope i helped you out a little bit.

Bigger is not always the better. I would only go that big if I was in need of space for bigger brakes. If not it's a waste of money and extra weight. You should better spend that money on a good set tires. If you really focus on going fast, forget chrome. If you can afford it, get forged rims.zerosilence wrote:as for rims id go with 17". right now i have 15" but plan on getting 17" they are good for the track i think.
Kayabas are indeed good struts.

Tell them to come out to the track and watch my woo beat up on people...they can even watch the drifters as well which are mostly 240ssss. Also for $5 to the organization you could ride in my car with me as long as its not a day where I want an instructer to help me get faster. My cars handling is insane...but the ride quality is okay.
You need to fix up your car soon so I can make you come out to the track. Would be amazing to start a woo club here locally.
n/a or turbo?
Depends on your goals and how much power you wanna make. Personally if you have the extra buck I say stay n/a and make your power....just because whenever I beat a fast car in a drag or pass someone on the nascar oval at the track (cuz they're afraid to push it) they ALWAYS ask if my cars turbo. Now I imagine if I could make twice the power of stock (200whp) while keeping it n/a and then tell ppl after a race that my cars not turbo'd.
If my goal was still 200whp then I'd probably sell my turbo parts and go for it n/a but now I'm trying to make an all out beast.
