Hi to all,
I have dead ‘99 Leganza on my hands and I decided to make a project out of it.
The connecting rod on first cylinder snapped and wreaked havoc on the entire engine. I took the engine apart today and found that the head was apparently rebuild short while ago (new water pump, gaskets...) but the loose piston bent at least one intake valve. Getting original Daewoo engine is out of the question (the car is worth next to nothing anyway and Legnazas are not very popular over here) so I’m contemplating two options:
- getting the bottom end out of Opel (Vectra or Omega 2.0), rebuild the original head and hopefully put everything back together (please stop me if the head won’t fit) or
- transplanting entire Calibra engine in the car.
What do you all think? Should I go for option 1, option 2 or do something else all together? I’m must say that I’m not really found of idea of rebuilding (almost) stock engine. I found a link on the forum which supposedly describes transplanting GM V6 engine (from Opel Omega, aka Cadillac Catera) into Lanos, but the page is down at the moment. I find the idea of V6 Leganza very interesting. Anyone knows how different mounting points of GM V6 are compared to original Daewoo 2.0 16V? I wonder if it’s doable (with limited resources that is, i.e. home garage and tools)?
I’m open to all suggestions so all thoughts and ideas are very welcome.
Thanks,
M.

Swapping the X30XE from Omega is as complicated as swapping same motor into Kadett E, or Astra 3gen. Look on migweb.co.uk for more info on the swap.
Personally, however, I'd go with the Z20LET, 2.0 Turbo from Astra G or newer. Its direct swap, but you would need to find motor complete with wiring and ECU. Alternatively, go with older C20LET from Calibra turbo
