Milage on a '99 1.6 Lanos
Hi. I just got a new Lanos, the old one was a 3 door 1.3L '98 model with a manual transmission. I got around 500km on 45-50 liters of gas, which I think equals something around 23 mpg US. Can anyone tell me what I should expect from my new Lanos? It's a 1.6L '99 5 door hatchback with an automatic transmission. I haven't gone through a whole tank yet, but the gauge is at 50% and I've only gotten 150 km out of that 50% (around 22-25 liters I think), which is scary because I like being able to afford food...
Thanks for the reply. Now, I know I am going to sound like a complete idiot, but since I know little about cars and english is not my first language, could you explain what a "tune up" is? I always take my cars in to be serviced every 5000km or so, I don't know what you call that, but the direct translation from my language of that process is "lubrication", they check things such as the air filter, gas filter, oil, etc... Is that a "tune up"?lanos2001 wrote:the 1.6l should be getting about 25 miles per gallon in city and about 30 miles per gallon highway. and these are average numbers. if i was you i would do a tune up on it to make sure nothing is eating your gas that you can avoid.

i also noticed that the fuel gauge is not uniform... i mean the gauge moves very fast when it is in the range from F to 3/4 then it goes slower when it is past 3/4 amd goes real slow in the 1/4 area.
at least this is the case with mine so if the needle is at 1/2 mark it might not mean that you got 1/2 full tank.

Yes I was expecting that, but on my other Lanos it was the other way around, it would move really slow from F to 1/2, and then much faster from 1/2 to 1/4 and even faster from 1/4 to E. Hope my gauge is like yours then, I was worried because I thought it would be like my old one and I would only be getting something like 12 mpg...MMamdouh wrote:i also noticed that the fuel gauge is not uniform... i mean the gauge moves very fast when it is in the range from F to 3/4 then it goes slower when it is past 3/4 amd goes real slow in the 1/4 area.

thats why it is not consistent... it has differen behaviour on different cars.
i got one friend that can send the needle from almos empty to 3/4 by just putting 20 liters of fuel.
