Good news mate........ the Lanos is based on an Astra MKII chassis.... so you should be able to get replacements for a reasonable price.

I know there are different Astra MKII dampers.... I'd go for the heaviest Astra MKII.... which should be the 2.0L GTE as the Lanos is heavier than the old Astra by roughly 100kg

If you were to put your lanos next to an Astra MKII you'd find that nearly every part of the vehicles drivetrain, suspension and brakes are identical.

You could even do a rear beam conversion.... just buy a GTE rear disk beam and it will bolt right on.

You can upgrade the brakes, transmission ( Lanos has a D16 which is a hydraulic version of the Astra's F16 ), Quaife LSD, you could even drop in a C20LET and 6spd F28 if you wanted.

Suspension between mk2 Astra and Lanos is identical, except for the front upper strut mounts.

Check out my topic over at Astra-mk2.com

http://www.astra-mk2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9580

I was going to get a kit the other day actually, but only just found out that lowering a car makes the ride worse, I was going to do it because my suspension is awful at the moment but it seems this will make it worse!

lowering your car will not 'make the ride worse' mate.

It will give you a firmer drive and you will feel more bumps in the road but wont cause discomfort. It will increase handling by lots and you will be able to take corners faster without loosing control. I would happily lower my lanos any day and cant wait till i can afford to do it!!

:D

Cheers Guys.

I just want to check things first before i start and end up in a huff n bits everywhere hehe

So if i bought a suspension kit consisting of dampers and springs for a Astra MK2 if would fit no problem?
And would the 2.0ltr 16v from the Astra MK2 fit straight on?
And the rear beam is a straight fit too?
Ive heard and some people have dropped the 2.0ltr redtop in ( engine from Astra MK2 GTE, Astra MK3 Gsi, Calibra, Cavalier MK3) (engine http://www.sbdev.co.uk/History_files/Hi ... hallXE.htm )
And it needs engine mounts from which Astra?
Also is the wiring a big problem?
And im guessing your need the ECU from the donor car yep?

To GsiTurbo
Would you have a pic of which part you mean of the suspension? Do you mean the bit you see from under the bonnet?

I dont mind lowering it, but i do want to upgrade the dampers n springs at same time be easiest.
If anyone has pics to help me email to mcewanslager2k2@hotmail.com
Im looking at getting a 2nd Lanos, thats y the questions :)
Thanks for the help,

Andy

I was concerned about the drop levels, as they say for instance a 25mm kit for an Astra Mk2 GTE would be around a 40mm drop on our cars, would this be true?
