Without specifications.... A/R, trim.... it's hard to say if this will work for your lanos.
I would say that most TD04 turbos are too big.
I have an "O Trim" = 57 trim T3/T04E ballbearing hybrid and I think it's a little much even for my 2.0L
Personally.... unless your running massive amounts of boost.... you'd be better off with a large T3 or T28.
Like I said.... without exact specifications.... who knows.

That TD04 didnt have a wastegate and had some shaft play - keep looking.
gtwoo'd has a T25 and he says that works well. there are more of these available on eBay. I'd be looking for something like that off a CA18.
The trim on the turbo has alot to do with power and delivery, but if you look for a stock turbo off a CA18, SR20, EJ20 or 4G63 you should be fine.
$600AU is about $0.50US
I'd be looking to spend about $350AU MAX for a good condition used TD04 or T25. You'll have almost no lag - you'll love it!
Boost is the only ESSENTIAL gauge IMO. The others will be good additions though - you could get a tripple pack and a single DIN mounting plate so you can mount it under your head deck from JustJap - they're pretty cheap and really good quality!!

Go to this site.........
http://stores.ebay.com/GLOWSHIFT-GAUGES
Good prices on gauges.... I'd get a Pyrometer, Boost, Oil pressure gauge pack
They sell the "superduty" package with Pyrometer, Boost, Trans Temp..... but I bet they would exchange the tranny temp for oil pressure if you asked.
They don't say that they ship to Australia but I'm sure that someone on this board would help you out if they are unwilling.
I'd help but having the gauges shipped from the USA to Canada and then to Australia would cost way more than just sending it from USA to USA to Australia.
Getting back to the turbo..... how much horsepower or boost do you plan on using??
A T25 is an excellent choice.... usually they start running out of steam around 10-12psi on the 2.0L so they should be good for 15psi with the 1.6L
Personally..... I'd try and get a ball bearing turbo such as a Garrett GT series ( GT25 for example ) as they spool up very quickly and have better efficency than the old T25
Even if it costs an extra $100 it would be well worth it.
