Hi All,
My 2004 forenza is super responsive and much more peppy and faster when I first start it..
I start the car, let the idle come down ,drive down my street and then off to work I go.
But I know your not surposed to rev the engine up high before you warm the car up.
But sometimes I can't help it, it is just soo darn fast.... haha
Then after a little bit once it is fully warmed up it starts getting a noticibly slower throtal responce..
Any idea if this is a problem, or is it due to some other factor..
What is that factor. ???? haha
I am satisfied with my car, but when it is cold it feels like it has a turbo..
anyway..
I havn't posted anything in a while so I had to ask this question.

Quick question about Forenza when 1st started

When your engine is cold it runs a preset fuel map ( open loop ) which is typically fairly rich.
It's possible that as the car moves into closed loop mode (using O2 sensor ) the air/fuel gets leaner to make the vehicle more efficent.
Also keep in mind that when you first start off your intake air will be cold and dense..... as the engine warms up so does the intake air as it passes through the various components of the engine ( intake, cylinder head) as it makes it's way to the open cylinder
I find the same with my Optra5.... on a crisp cold morning it seems significantly faster.
Remember that our vehicles are ULEV (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle) so that's why we make less power.
I'd guess that there is atleast 20hp sitting there waiting to be released by the addition of an aftermarket piggy back computer.

bsharon.... kinky was talking to me.... Tom and I fooled around with my Optra5 on a dyno one night.
Kinky.... we just had a SAFCII... which modifies the MAP signal.
The air/fuel was actually dead on.... we screwed with the settings a bit but it didn't make much difference.
To be honest.... I threw it on there just for the fun of it..... the purchase of the SAFCII was for when I drop in a turbo motor and want to fine tune the fuel at various RPM.
Using a SAFCII also changes your ignition timing slightly..... you actually have to watch out.... if you are too agressive your timing will advance and give you spark knock.
Anyways...... the Optra5 is still my daily driver so I don't want to add more fuel.... not too concerned about the power levels at the moment.
