I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose my 2001 Nubira. It is loud (knocking sound) when I start it for about 15 seconds then runs smooth and almost quiet but the oil pressure warning light flickers at idle when it is fully warmed up. It has 95,000 miles on it and has had the head replaced approx 10,000 miles ago by the previous owner. Is my Daewoo doomed? Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tedinindy

when i had similar symptoms on my old VW beetle it turned out to be bad crank shaft bearings... they are too warn.
warn bearings cause knocking sound at startup as the clerance in them is too big and they litrally bang on the lower ring of the connecting rod till the oil reaches the bearings and fill them up making a damping agent and the sound goes away.
the flicking oil lamp is due to the fact that at idle the bearings got big clerance and let the oil kinda "leak" too soon into the oil pan so the oil pump struggles to build enough pressure to keep the lamp off.

There is a filter in the oil pump from where it sucks oil. Just make sure that this filter is not choked. This filter can be opened by removing the oil chamber from below the engine and can be easily cleaned by burning the carbon deposits on the filter. The sound which is coming can be due to low oil pressure (Which also makes the light flikker) which may be due to choked filter. Here am not talking about the oil filter which is fitted outside the engine, but the one inside the engine oil chamber just before the oil pump. I think this will solve your problem.

There are good chances your lifters/oil system si simply clogged with dirt build-up. This is in most cases caused by changing oil quite rarely. Run motor flush addititive and then change your oil. This should reduce knocking. If knocking still occurs re-do after 1000 miles. You may consider using using better quality oil / filter as well.
And I do agree with goldiegill's suggestion above.
