Hello,
Like the title says, I just got an'01 Leganza with lots of miles... 158,000. The car is in good shape, has lots of power and I am very happy with it.
I had to change the rear pads and one rotor as the grinding metal on metal was a little unsettling, (ha, ha.)
Because I know nothing about this car, (except it was a rental) what types of maintenance MUST be done? I washed, waxed, changed the oil, repaired the brakes.
I need to add power steering fluid- is there any special kind required?
Needs a new air filter- where should I find this?
I am very concerned about the timing belt. How hard of a job is this, what kind of expense. Is there any way to tell if it was ever changed before?
Thank you all in advance!

i am not fond of replacing just one rotor, those things should be replaced in pairs... its a safty issue.I had to change the rear pads and one rotor as the grinding metal on metal was a little unsettling, (ha, ha.)
unless you are 100% sure of how many miles on the current timing belt, tensioner, idle pully and water pump you should replace them immediatly, its a precautionary action since a broken belt will distroy the engine head... it is better to be safe than sorry.Because I know nothing about this car, (except it was a rental) what types of maintenance MUST be done? it all depends on how skillful you are as far as car mechanics go and what tools yoou got, their is a post on how to do the job on a 1.6 DOHC so that will be a good guide for you to judge how hard it is to do the job on your leggy... ok it is not the same engine but the basic requirments are the same.I am very concerned about the timing belt. as long as you live outside of Egypt, i have no idea about the cost of parts
their is no way to know how long the belt was used unless you get that info from the previous owner.

Hey... welcome to the forum. Yet another Michigander. There are three of us that I know of on here so far. Daewoomofo, mrbnew, and myself.
I agree with everything MMamdouh explained up there. I have done a timing belt change and it wasn't super difficult... though you do need a few specialized tools.
Oh... I have a 2001 Lanos Sedan with the 1.6L DOHC... so your car will be slightly different. But it is worth it for you to replace those parts as soon as possible... it's a $150ish investment that could save you about $800-900 later (read: New Engine).
Well... nice to meet ya, feel free to message me if you want.

Thanks for the warm welcome and info.
What kind of specialized tools? I am all about getting new tools.
Where is the best (see inexpensive) place to get my belt and parts. I see I can order them from Daewoo but it is a little tricky trying to figure out what you are getting. For example, the "filter" request came back with "96207426 COVER A-AIR FILTER Leganza $6.56". Is this the filter itsself or the filter cover.
Likewise, for the timing belt-
90528603 TENSIONER-TIMING BELT Leganza $161.58
90530126 TENSIONER-TIMING BELT Leganza $98.54
What one do I want and is this the belt or the tensioner? Or both?
Advance Auto has a timing belt for $41 and a water pump for $104. No go on the Idle pully or tensioner, didn't have it.
