C20LZ

Post by gse_turbo »

the motor from the sunbirds, lemans GSE, some cav's and grand am's is the C20LZ, i don't now the most about the motors but if i'm not mistaken the C20one is the euro spec. not mant people go with the SOHC non-turbo they go straight to the turbo model. iv'e seen the a turbo SOHC go as high as 338bhpon mostly stock guts. if you go with a SOHC non-turbo then get one of the later ones, they come with DIS and a bit more power.
the upside to a SOHC build up is that you can find a ton of the in the scrap yards to start the project with.
on the other hand, i always tell anyone getting ready to do a swap to look into the T22SED or one of the like versions from the Isuzu Rodeo or Honda Passports. the T22SED is one of the best engines i've ever seen and it's what i'm using so i stand behind the suggestion.

C20NE is 115HP, 180Nm. It can stand nitrous shot of 100HP without problems...

Very good undistractable engines...

thats what i thought. are the internals the same (pistons, stronger rods, ect.) or will i have to lower the compression to turbo it? i know people do the double head gasket, sill i have to do that? im just doing some studying before i go and get my heart set on one and find out its not worth it.

turbo setup

Post by gse_turbo »

if you are going to turbo a N/A motor, make sure that you use a 91-94, they are MPF were the older are TBI, simple enough.
the major difference between the GET and the LZ, NE ect. is valve angle.
i've had this interchange list on my cardomain page for a few years now and though it's 100% it will have nearlr enerything anyone would need to know http://www.cardomain.com/ride/528523/5 .
if you do build a SOHC i highly suggest using my stainless header flange kit and have someone weld up a custom fit header for your application, kit includes 1/2" stailess head flanges, 1/2" stainless T3 flange, and 1/4" EGR block off.
the EGR system is run off the third exhaust port and i recomend using moroso's block filler to completely eliminate it.
some people have found that the larger Pontiac Fierro throtlebody will mount to the manifold, but i'm not sure from what year, tom knows.
PISTONS, make sure you use the GET pistons, Mahli offers a set. they drop the compression by 0.5:1. they're dished and .5:1 may noy be alot but that little bit can make a world of difference.
rods and crank are the same.
look into KENT CAMS the offer cam, valve springs, ect. for the motor and you will atleast need the GET's bee hive type valve springs if not the Kent Cams double spring. they also offer a set of uprated cam followers that are very much need for big turbo build ups.
WHOEVER BUYS THE C20GET I HAVE FOR SALE GETS ALL THIS STUFF!!!!!!
thats all i can think of for now but you all should check out that page before continuing on!
thanks
