Help!!! - Automatic Shifter Is Making Noise When I Brake...

Post by m00ncrickit »

Hello, well I have another problem... First off I own the 2001 Daewoo Lanos 1.6. I just got home and parked my car and turned it off. I needed to move a bit closer to the curb, so I started my car and pretty much right after turning the key put the car in reverse, and I let off the brake pedal to move back a bit, as soon as I put my foot back on the brake pedal a "click-clack" sound came from the plastic cover where the shifter is. After positioning my car, I shut it off and restarted it. While in park I pressed and let off the brake pedal several times and it keeps going "click-clack, click-clack". Anyone have any idea WTF this could be? =) I've owned this car for like not even a month and this'll be the third time I have to take it in for service. Haaaallp!!

if it happens when you push the brake pedal when its in park than that "click clack" is normal. its the safty switch so yoiu dont accadentially pull it out of park before you want to

If you heard this yourself, you definitely wouldn't think it sounded normal... When I get back outside I'll take a video and post it so you can see/hear whats happening with it. It's not just happening in park, as far as I've checked it is happening in D4 and Reverse too. I'll see if it does it in the other gears in a bit.

first of all, does your emergeny brake work? That could be a problem too, it could have snapped or its in a wierd position that it could be pulled when u put on the brakes..

Okay, well I checked it out again this morning and it is only happening in PARK, not in drive and reverse or anything else. It either stopped or I was going so mental about having a new problem that I just heard that sound echoing in my head the whole time. I swear this is something new though, wouldn't I have noticed this before? I dunno.

My car dose the same thing and it has since i bought it. My friends civic dose the same thing.. it sounds as if its coming from the shifter or emergence brake. Its normal its a switch that dosent let you change gears unless you have the brake in.
