Ground Wiring Setup Question - Daewoo Lanos 1.6

Post by m00ncrickit »

Hey guys, well I decieded to go thru with doing this... I just bought some Raptor BPT2P Terminals (1x0ga. 1x4ga. 2x8ga.) and I need some input on my setup. I'm planning on buying some amp cable to rig this all up and I understand that the guage on the negative (-) terminal doesn't much matter... but, if I want to upgrade the Battery positive (+) terminal from the Alternator (+) output bolt, what guage should I use? I was planning on the 0 ga. Will that be too little resistance? Just wondering. Also I've seen like a trillion photos on how to do this but I can never tell if people are using the existing grounding cables on thier negative terminals or if they are all replaced. I'm guessing they are there but in most of the photos I've seen it's hard to tell because there are usually these brightly colored nice looking cables blocking out the crappy looking black cables under them. Ohhh I just thought of one more question... What guage are the stock "OEM" cables for the battery leads, positive & negative??? Thanks for the help.

Actually, the negative cables are more important than the positive.
Whoever told you that the guage of the negative cables doesn't matter does not know what they are talking about.

Have a read here:

In that post "BosnianLanos" wrote...
A few feet of 4, 6, or 8 gauge wire (gauge is really... unimportant) I went with 4 but it's too damn big and hard to twist around. I also got lucky and mine turned out to be gasoline and oil resistant.

I think that's where I got the idea. I'm assuming the stock cables are not only not very good quality but also limit the through-put of electricity, thus "upgrading" to a lower guage (thicker) cable setup. I guess I'm wondering what the result of putting a 0ga. cable in there would be? Is that a bad thing? It's easy to just say, "hey dude, just use 4ga." but does anyone have a little more info or could point me in the direction of understanding for this specific car, what they used when they built the car and what effects it would have, etc?

i used 4 guage when i did mine... welding cable works great for it! i say that 4 guage should be good enough. also a good dry cell battery works wonders for the chargeing system

0ga will not be bad in there, but with a stock Lanos alternator only making 85amps output, it is unnecessary.
There are no negative points to using 0ga other than it is more expensive and harder to find terminal ends for connecting it.
The larger cable like 0ga has no increased resistance or anything like too little resistance; and as you should know, the less resistance, the better.

4ga is fine, 0ga has no advantage in the power and grounding cables under the hood.

I have 4ga grounds and power under the hood of my car and used 0ga to run from the battery positive terminal to the back of my car where the distrobution block is for the amplifiers. I am running 1700 watts RMS total in the car between 2 amplifiers, but rarely do I ever turn the system up to draw a heavy current.
