Getting a high pitched whine in car

Post by norbie »

Hi,

I'm getting a high pitched whine in car when my car audio system is turned OFF.

I know what alternator whine is, and this may be it, but I don't see how as this happens when the engine is on, but all audio devices powered off.

I can hear it mainly when I'm listening in the boot, high pitched whine don't know what it can be. I have power wires running in there for amp etc, any ideas?

your power wires should NEVER be any where near your speakers or speaker wire. id say seperate them keep them as far away from the speaker wire as you can and see if its still there

They're as far away as possible and I'm using high qualirt shielded cable with ferrites on to block 100% inteference.

But point is, I'm getting this with no audio equipment turned on, I could take out the audio equipment and still get this noise.

If you hear it in the boot, it may very well be the whine from the electric fuel pump that you hear.

When I had the interior taken out of my car, I could hear the whine from the fuel pump and it drove me up the wall!!

Also ... which car do you have?
It is helpful to us all if you list what your car is in the general information under your name, or in your signature block. :)

It says in my signature?!

It's Daewoo Lanos 1.3/1.4 don't know if you need to know anymore than that.

I do have the interior out of the boot at the moment maybe that is why I am noticing it more.
Have been talking to Daewoomofo on MSN and he said about fuel pump too, will investigate further tomorrow.

if it is too loud then it is bad, the early lanoses that came to Egypt got fuel pump issues and they were loud as hell, i replaced mine under warranty.

How would one be able to tell if it is "too loud" ?

Daewoomofo said it was alright as they all make noise anyway.

well... in my setuation i couldn't hear the pump when the car was idling and i am in the driver's seat when the pump was OK... when it went bad it was annoyingly loud at idle.

well its like mine may be then, cause especially as it is priming when i turn the key, it makes an awful ginding noise.. when it constantly runs.. at high revs, it will make noise.. the pump is working good though and i always thought that was normal!
