Whats this hose do?
Car: 99 lanos hatch
Engine: A15SMS - Aussie version - no EGR valve but has O2 sensor
Guys,
I have a hose that runs off the engine breather hose. Its about 5mm in diameter and runs from the T piece on the engine breather, around the back and into the inlet manifold, just behind the throttle body (after the butterfly). Its obviously something to do with vacuum but im not sure what.
Im looking at throwing a catch can on and then venting from that to atmosphere (yes the EPA may not like it but the risk of me getting pulled over is low), so Im just sussing out what hoses I need to get rid of or keep.

umm ithink that is a vacume to the intake as u say, but i am not for sure since i have the us 1.6 with egr and stuuf not sure but i am at least posting something after 11 views,lol

Not everyone is going to know everything about the engines so just wait for someone who may know, Myself i have no idea what you're even talking about... With that said, daewoo's should have a 3 hose connection for oil catch cans...

the PCV hose got two outlets, one is a big size hose and it is linked to the intake tube before the butterfly and the other is a tiny hose linked to the mani behind the butterfly.
the big hose ventlated the big amount of gases generated at mid and high revs when the butterfly is open and their is enough vacuum in the whole intake tubing t suck the generated gases.
the small hose is used to suck the gases when the butterfly is closed, the vacuum behind the butterfly is high enough to suck the generated gases but since you are at idle their isn't much gases to clear and thats why it is a small hose (sorry lanowoo, the small hose is important).
if you are going to use a catch can then i recommend that you have two outlet hoses, one to go on the intake tube and the other on the mani just like the OEM setup to avoid gases buildup at idle in case you decided to neglect the small hose.

I wasnt having a dig at anyone, I was merely having a joke with another daewootech member and stating that statistically, a response to a question posted only a few hours ago was excellent. Thanks MM was wondering what the story was with that hose.
I was thinking of using a catch tank with an inlet and outlet but venting the outlet either through a small filter, or to satisfy the environmental weenies, running it back like the OEM setup but with a filter hanging off a T piece. This should still vent to atmosphere (based on path of least resistance) but still keep up the appearance for a quick compliance check. I was going to do away with the small hose if it wasnt important.
Why do this?? well I cant see why not, I mean your throttle body gets coated in recirculated crap and you negate the spent gasses going back through then engine. I can only think of positives for doing it. Can anyone think of any negative effects of doing this (performance wise I mean).

i can't find any negative sides whatsoever... it is good to keep your intake clean from all the crap the PCV spits into it and consumes us time and money to clean our IAC, TB and intakes every once in a while.
a breather filter will do the trick for sure but if you decided to hook the outlet of the can to the intake then go with the OEM setup.
