spring swap
i haven't done a spring swap on a nubi spacificly but they should all sping overs should be the same. if you want to do it yourself and you have a Harbor Frieght tool store in town then get a spring compressor set to start with. remove the strut assembly (this is for the front and back) from the strut tower and related suspension components, compress the spings and remove the shock nut, remove the bushing set, swap and reverce.
if you need your local library should have a repare manual for all imports in your year range, no one ever put out a daewoo spacific manual. if your library doesn't have chilton books write me and i'll e-mail you the exploded view and instuctions.

Re: H&R Springs
Just to let you know, i've done this, and it took a long while with two people... I really would suggest replacing your struts, because even if you don't now, you will have to later, and that means repeating the same process twice... but if not thats fine as well, will just be twice the work later on...Dillon wrote:Can anyone give me a how to on installing springs on a daewoo nubira.... Like garrett said, you'll need a spring compressor ( i acutally used two, just to be safe and the spring didn't fly out at me...)
After you get the strut out with spring and all, you're going to go ahead and clamp the spring crompressors on, tighten them down so the spring is pretty snug and you have some wiggle room to be able to loosen the shock nut, which is going to be at the top of the strut, once thats loose you can pop off the bushings and cover, and take the old spring out... then slowly unclamp the spring.. Grab the new spring, clamp it down, then put the bushings back on the top of the strut, then the cover, and replace the shock nut tightly... and you're done with one... then all ya gotta do is put it back in the strut housing...
The back ones on my car were pretty tricky i had to take out the brake calipers to get it to where i could remove the strut from the housing... But i also have the hatchback model, so it may have been a slightly different wheel well... now assuming you run into as many snags as i did, it took me and a friend around 7 hours to do mine right... now we were kinda novice at it, he'd done it twice before, myself i'd never done it... So when we hit a snag we asked around a bit to find the answer we needed... Also, when working with the springs, make sure you have someone around just in case a spring pops loose and smacks you unconcious... they're pretty dangerous... even if its just your girlfriend sitting across the room in a chair reading cosmo... I'd have someone nearby in case of emergency...
It's not impossible... And it's not too difficult once you know what you're doing... the first strut was the hardest for us... the rest went like clockwork... It took us 6 hours to get 1 done, and 1 hour to finish the other three after we had everything figured out...
If you have any questions I'm willing to answer any... that i may know the answer to...

To be honest, i didn't use the pickle fork, and the torque wrench is just to ensure you have the bolts and such on tight enouhg so your spring doesn't pop back out or something after you've tightened the shock nut...Dillon wrote:Thanks that helps alot.. But i still have one question... Do i need a tourqe wrench or pickel fork? or is all i need a spring compressor.
Thanks

Wow! change in plans... ive found a suspension shop close to where i live that says they can remove the bolt... im a little hesitant on weather or not they can do wat they say. im also a little worried about the price, considering i only have about $200 left and im not willing to pay very much considering all i want them to do its take ONE bolt off.
Also will it hurt my car if i drive it with stock springs on the back and sport ones on the front for a while?
Thanks

Did you only buy the front springs? or all four?Dillon wrote:Wow! change in plans... ive found a suspension shop close to where i live that says they can remove the bolt... im a little hesitant on weather or not they can do wat they say. im also a little worried about the price, considering i only have about $200 left and im not willing to pay very much considering all i want them to do its take ONE bolt off.

I'm not thinking it will hurt anything other than be a little off on the handling...
It shouldn't cost too much to do springs, the thing that will kill you is labor though... as it's not a 10 minute job... maybe looking at $150-$300 for all four... Really dunno, all i know is for my car in phoenix i was quoted $300 by two shops to do all four wheels... some other shops were a lot cheaper but in the end i did them myself...

no i bought all four its just the back ones make my tires rub and i dont wanna install them till i can handel that
All i want the shop to do is compress the spring and take it off i already took off the strut and everything. So really all there doing is compressing the spring taking off the bolt putting on the new spring and putting the bolt on. it shouldent take longer than 20min with a mechanical spring compressor, but ill bet they will still want a fourtune .

Did you get camber bolts too? camber bolts are going to prevent the tires from rubbing in the front and rear after you get an alignment.

no. the front tires are fine, i could probly even lower it another inch and be fine... But my back tire hits the fender lip so im gonna get it cut out and grinded down, but even then my tires will most likley still hit cause there an inch wider than my stock tires.
I thought that chamber bolts just made it eaiser to align?

They do make it easier to align, and also allow for tuning your camber in for better handling (can change the camber 1-3 degrees in either direction.)... I'd suggest picking some up and then having the car aligned, they're cheap, around $60... as for the rear fenders rub, I'm not sure what to do, you could pull out the fender a little bit... but not sure if you'd want to do that.Dillon wrote:no. the front tires are fine, i could probly even lower it another inch and be fine...
