timing belt and water pump replaced/at that low mileages/?

Hi,

I did stall last week driving in a very low speed in the parking lot of a shopping center and could not start the engine. I had the car tow to the garage and they told me that it is your timing belt, so later in the week the mecanic did replace the timing belt and the water pump.

When I went to get the car an hour before he finish the repairs, when he did finish the job, he started the car
and it was running very rough, like something was wrong with the engine. He said that there is some dommage done to the valves.

My question is: did he set up the timing correctly, or the proper alignment of the pulleys with the markers as recommended, or really there is something wrong with the engine cause by the timing belt braking or did he
wronly set up the marked pulleys.

p.s., Thanks for your reply, and is it normal that a timing belt brake at that mileage (60000kil/37500miles).

if your belt went then you WILL have bent valves, your best bet is to get all new valves and completly redo the head

60K Km is a bit low for the timing belt to break... to check for bent valves, have your mechanic do a compression test on each of the cylinders.

Besides that, yes it is possible the timing belt was not aligned properly.

Is the timing belt replacement is the same as on a 1.6 16 valve DOHC. (for a Nubira 2.0....)

if your timing belt snapped then you must have bent some valves... this is why your engine ran so rough after the new belt was installed.

the 2.0 DOHC got 2 marks on each cam gear and i don't know which ones point to the cam cover and which point toeach other... other than that it is basicly the same job as the 1.6 DOHC.

60K Km is a bit low for the timing belt to break...

Since that car has been bought used, is it possible that the odometer has been tampered? This is not uncommon on used car dealers, and that could explain the breakage is the real mileage is over 100 000km.

My cam belt stripped teeth at only 69000km - the book (manual) i got with the car said it needed to be replaced at 90000km. since then I get it replaced every 50000km. its not that an expensive thing to do AND a truck load cheaper than having to whip the head of to replace all those bent valves - and the 16v motor DOES bend its valves.

I ended up replaceing all 16 valves.

as i always say: it is better to be safe than sorry, replace them belts at 50k kms... i replace mine at 40k kms.

Thanks for all your replies, and what could be the estimate for replacing the bent valves and redo the head on this Daewoo Nubera 1999. I am going to the garage this morning about that.
