Hi,
I did a search for a how-to replace the hub/bearings but didn't come up with anything specific. I bought both the hubs and the bearings (front wheels) and they came as separates. My assumption is that I just have to press the bearing onto the hub and put it on after pulling the old one off. My question is how hard is it to get the hub AND bearing off as one piece (is this possible with or without a press / the screw dealie that the manual calls for) and put the new one on or do I have to get the bearing off first and then the hub (or vice versa?)
Any help will be appreciated and if I'm able to do it myself, I'll get pics and possibly do a write-up on it for others who might need it.

When I had to replace my front wheel bearings on my Lanos. I use my dad's press to take out the bearings, did not bother with the hub.

Well so far half-good.
I ordered the hubs and bearings from Daewoopartspr in Puerto Rico, and finally took stuff apart today. Got the hub assembly to a shop to have them press the old ones out and put the new ones in...turns out the hubs I received weren't made to accept the wheel studs from the old one...in other words, they don't have wheel lug studs that you press in; rather, you have to get new lug studs for the front wheels and discard the lug nuts previously on the car. Luckily a store in town had some at $6.75 / lug ($54 for 8 - ouch)
The guy at the shop started on the second hub and somehow managed to ruin that bearing...so he had to order another on his dime, overnighted.
In conclusion, this job is impossible without a press or the right tools.
Do -
- Use a tie-rod end puller to get the tie rod end off. don't hammer it. I'm having issues tightening the tie rod end because the threads are slightly messed up and i can't press it into the knuckle.
- Use a ball joint separator.
- The axle nut size is 32mm.
Don't -
- Attempt this job without a press or the right tools. Period.
Now, anyone got any ideas on what to do with the tie-rod end and getting it to tighten? I might wind up dremeling a little material off it, just enough to fit a wrench to hold it steady while I tighten it (last resort) till i can get a new one in early next week.
