I'm not real familiar with anything newer than a MK3.... but I would say the likelyhood of it fitting a 1.6L from a Lanos as 98% since it was a standard engine in all the Astra vehicles.
Is this Astra in the USA???
If so this would be the first one I've seen that is this new.

Your very lucky to have found an Astra like that over here...... it must have been one that was brought back by someone from the military..... usually those kinds of cars are really hard to import because they haven't gone through the USA DOT process
It's a left hand drive so I'm thinking it came from Germany.
If I were you..... I'd buy it ASAP..... and the 1.4L is a really decent engine.... very common in the UK due to it's great gas mileage.
Of course it probably takes something like 14 seconds to get to 60mph but what can you expect from a little 1.4L.
Hmmmm..... another swap to consider is a V6 from a Cadillac Catera of the same year..... it's the Opel Omega over in UK/Europe

The only snag you might hit with installing the 1.6L is getting the emissions people to accept that your 1.6L Daewoo engine was a standard engine offered in the Astra.... since the X16XE looks different (no VGIS ) and it has different engine statistics ( higher compression ratio... different engine management system )
If you don't want it..... well hell.... I'd buy it and bring it up here..... I couldn't register it but it would be fun to add to my collection.
So if you back out of this let me know ASAP as I will snap it up.
Hell..... if you buy it and have problems getting it past emissions or something.... I'll buy it off you without a second thought.
With the current price of shipping I'm tempted to buy a whole bunch of USA vehicles and bring them back here to Canada...... I can sell the other cars at a profit and make up for shipping costs on the cars I want.

this is an astra MKII:
i'd check the engine mounts to make sure they are the same, in here the opel corsa comes with a 1.6 SOHC that is very similar to the 1.5 SOHC in a lanos... unfortunatly the mounts setup on that engine is like the one on the nubira so a swap is out of the question.
also the Chevy aveo comes with a 1.5 SOHC identical to the lanos... yet again the mounts are similar to the nubira setup so the bottom line is: check the engine mounts setup and from my experiance with busted front engine mounts i can say that most newer cars are using the nubi setup as it is much reliable.
