I'm trying to figure out what kind of cable I need to buy to operate some ODBII software.
Here is the freeware software for my Pocket PC (PDA) I found. I have a serial sync cable. But from what I understand I also need an ODB II interface, but not sure which one to get.
I'm hoping to get this going so I can use that to diagnose problems with my car.
OBD II + PDA + Some Freeware + ? = Help?

Best than buying separate things and trying to make them working togheter I would suggest you to buy a commercial obd code reader (Don't ask me how I know!). They are multi-protocol and you can get one for under 50$ on Ebay or shops. http://search.ebay.com/obd-reader_eBay- ... sacatZ6000 .
Just check that your car is obd2 compliant. You sould find a sticker showing that.

great find indeed johnny! I just got a new tmobile mda and am downloading it right now.
as for a cable I was thinking of just using the cable that comes with the mda (usb to mini usb) and hopefully just using a female to female usb adaptor with OBD II to usb connection. I think that will work.

Yeah... I figured since I already have a PocketPC PDA and I have all but one thing (serial to ODBII interface), it would be nice to be able to plug it in and get live data from the ECU.
If anyone know exactly which ODB II to serial wire (could be USB too since I have a USB connection as well on my sync cable) I need, please let me know.
(I found a number of other software packages that work as well... so if I get the hardware together I might get my hands on some other software to try out as well.)

You can see here http://www.obd2allinone.com/ for interface. Still more expensive then ready build one's.
Also http://www.elmelectronics.com/ sells chips if you want to build your own interface.
But USE interface if you don't want to fry ECU or/and PC ports.
