That kit is cheap! Personally I would go with a Gates timing belt kit of some sort. You can get one from www.partsdinosaur.com ... He's a friendly old guy and he even sends print outs on how to change the parts you buy from him. He's also located in AZ and is pretty quick on the shipping. Overall, a good place to buy some of your parts. I don't think you would be able to get as good a deal through him for all the stuff. But, you can get a Gates belt from him which is higher quality.

So you understand why I went with a Gates belt over another brand... Our engines are interferance engines, if our belt snaps we have a LOT of expensive parts to replace (all the valves and a few other expensive operations), so I decided to find out who makes the best of the belts. Everything I saw said that the Gates belts were just tougher and of higher quality. With something as crucial as the timing belt, I figured it would be best to put the best I could find in there. Yeah... that meant I paid a little extra for my belt, but to me, it was worth it.

As for the labor, it's not too bad once you've done it once. You would need a couple of special tools handy (air ratchet, 17mm air ratchet socket, air compressor) to get the crankshaft pulley off, but beyond that, not too many hard parts. There is only one part that is difficult without the special 40mm belt tension adjuster tool... which would be actually getting the belt on there (needed the help of my wife to hold the tensioner back using a screwdriver wedged under the power steering pump and a little lithium grease to get that bloody thing on there, but it did eventually go back on with a lot of effort). :)

Most shops quoted me $350+ just to install the timing belt and such. If you're going to let a shop do it for you, make sure that they've worked on Daewoo's and know what the hell they're doing. If they don't you're going to be paying for them to learn how to change the timing belt (longer labor = more $$$ out of your pocket).

Is it best to replace those parts too when changing the timing belt,or is the belt the most important bit ?
I need to know whether its best to order them altogether.

OK,he has these at Partsdinosaur

http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/product1094.html
http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/product1095.html

Will they do the job,or should i still look for a different brand? I am going to order the Gates belt,so i may as well get these at the same time if they will be adequate.

cheers

Great,I'm going to do that.Bound to be cheaper than buying the parts at the dealership or through any mechanic/repair shop. I may have someone fit them though,I cant do it alone, and I dont know anyone who can help.
Still,I will have saved a shitload of money already by doing the other bit myself, and the free recall fix too !

How many hours work do you think it would be for a skilled person to do this,2 hours? 3 ? Just trying to figure labour costs roughly if i go that route.

cheers

a very skilled person with daewoos and ALL of the right tools it should take them 3-6 hours, the tough part is just getting to the belt, the change is the easy part.

With all the right tools, I can get down to the belt in about 45 minutes. I can change the belt in about 20-30 and get it all put back together in an hour. So I would say for a decent mechanic, 2-3 hours should be adequate to do the job.

Got my parts.Replaced the 02 sensor, and I am booked in for an appointment Friday to get the CPS done. Hopefully after that I can get back some of my gas
mileage !
I also got the timing belt, idler, and tensioner, and i will find out if they can fit those if the price is reasonable. If not i will still have to find someone
to help me do it.
getting it done,woohoo.

By the way,how much is a service usually at a dealership ? I dont know the last time the car was serviced so it might be wise to have it done.

Yeah I was thinking that too.

OK,now I get an email from Daewoo US :

"You need to know that not all camshaft position sensor failures are covered under the recall. Only the ones that fall within a certain production lot number and would cause a safety issue. You may drive all the way only to find out you still have to pay for the sensor. We are giving you this information in order for you to save time and gas money. "

But a few days ago they sent me an email telling me that my car has two open recalls, this was after i had told them my VIN,so they must have looked it up. I wish these people get their act together and give us solid information for once instead of conflicting info
I'm gonna be pissed if i get there and they tell me i have to pay for it to be done, even though they told me all i need to bring is the email that Daewoo sent to tell me my car has the recall on it.

The dealership I called looked my vin up themselves and then set an appointment with me. I didn't have DaewooUS look up my vin. However, after I got it done, I got a letter in the mail from Daewoo informing me that my woo was repaired under the recall... haha *shrug*

When i called the dealership I asked if he wanted the VIN,but he said as long as i printed off the email i got from Daewoo, that would be ok,and 2 different guys in the service dept told me that. I just hope they are right. !!

Thinking about it now,the email i got today from Daewoo i think was in reply to a second email i had sent them, not a second reply to the first email i sent,if that makes sense. Oh well i guess i will find out soon enough.
