For those who dont believe in turbocharging the 2.0 DOHC

Post by GsiTurbo »

Found these photos on the web, and thought I must share. This is one impressive build-up...I just dont get non-adjustable cam gears. I mean, whoever build this up, does have some cash to spare, and I do not mean spare change. So the only explenation is that there are no gains?? But then again, if it was me, I'd put them on, even if its for the looks only.

Motor A, with drysump and internally wastegated T3/04 sized turbo

Motor B, with something much larger....  oh yeah!

Dyno graph, but I dont know what motor it is
After conversion from metric system, it made:

284 hp & 301 ft-lbs of torque. Note the 2nd plot line from the bottom...this represents EGT temp in C, while the one below is in my believe drivetrain/tires power loss as a function of power and rpm. Quite interesting.

Below is also a vid (24MB) of turbocharged Opel Speedster. Note the speedo needle position...also, the two gauges in the centre console. The top one appears to be oil temp, bottom one the EGT (both in C degrees)

A variant of the motor found in the Opel Speedster, with lower compression pistons. But otherwise identical.

North American Ecotec and European Ecotec, apart from the name, have nothing in common.

the first difference is that the 'american' ecotecs are chain driven... these engines were used for the BTCC Astra touring cars for 4 years in a row (about 300bhp NA), i dont know if they're using it on the same engine on the new Astra

Would I be able to use parts from such an engine to build up my u20sed? low comp pistons for example?
