Need pics of hole for power cable from battery thru firewall

Post by norbie »

Hi,

I need to run a power cable from my battery along to the boot - has anyone got any pics of the firewall in the car?

A closeup pic and a pic of where it is in the whole engine bay would be good as I can't see any holes at all!

Here's what you do...

Take off the front driver's side wheel and detatch the splash shield.

Look inside and you'll see a huge bundle of wires.

Those wires are most of your electrical components heading into the cabin. Notice they go through a rubber seal in the side down under the dash on the drivers side.

If you make a small slice in the rubber gasket kind of thing where the wires go through, you can push some wires through the slice you cut and to wherever you need to go from there.

Hope that helps. I can't show you any good pictures of it since the car isn't home right now, but it's pretty easy to find.

More or less you route wires up through the fender above the splash guard and into the cabin through the rubber gasket.

Removing a wheel isn't an option for me I'm afraid, is there another way to get to them?

Also what side of the car is this on? Remember we both have UK (Right hand drive) cars.

It should be on the driver's side of the car in either case (I think)... and no... you really can't do it without taking off the wheel.

Out of curiosity... why can't you take your wheel off?

I don't have wheel spacers/sprigot rings for my alloy wheels so they're balanced on there.

It takes two people to put the wheels on, one holding it dead on center whilst the other person does the bolts up.

Ugh... that's horrid. Well... You have a problem then... hehe More or less you can't get to that hole without removing the wheel or have a fiber optic camera with a light and a little prehensile grabby thing to drag the wires through the wheel well. heheh

That about taps me out for ideas on how to get wires through (since that was the only way I could find to do it properly without drilling a hole in my firewall).

well in the left hand drive cars on the passenger side there is a bundle of wires goin through the firewall near the top. you just see some wires goin through it and it comes out behind the glove box. not sure if it would be the same case for you. and if you do find it no need to cut the rubber piece in my spot bc you can just shove the wire through. you'll have to use a clothes hanger though. you tie the power wire to a clothes hanger tahts been straightened out and shove it through.

yup a metal coat hanger and tie the power cable around it and my suggestion is to push it through the hole from the inside out and then you just grab the hanger and the cable and pull it on through.

Got my car all wired up and amp plugged in and working :)

I used the same hole as pictured above - problem was I had a massive black thing in front of it that I think is to do with brakes, so I had to work around it.

Pics to follow soon!
