Comparison of Stock C20GET and U20SED

Post by PrecisionBoost »

Here are baseline (no modifications) comparisons between my Optra 5 dyno ( U20SED ) and Lemans dyno ( C20GET )

Both are stock, both have similar mileage ( C20GET was rebuilt )

The C20GET needs a basic tune up but it's running a slightly higher grade fuel than the Optra 5.

It's very clear to see how much difference boost makes on the stock engines.

I'm not sure of the exact amount of boost the Lemans was making as it was not monitored during the runs.

We were more concerned about the Air/Fuel mixture and the RPM levels (since the dashboard Tach wasn't functioning )

Tom thinks the waistgate actuator is in need of replacement and I did notice very erratic boost levels when driving so it's possible that it's not making as much boost as it should be from the factory.

The next step is to add an intercooler (stock form did not have an intercooler) as well as an underdrive pulley and an adjustable cam gear.

At this point the Lemans is almost scary quick... when the boost starts the car gets a little loose and it's hard to get traction in 1st and 2nd gear.

Personally, I think a C20GET is a great choice for the Lanos as it would make the car feel like it's been put on steroids and they are relatively easy to find

Interesting comparison, but aren't those both torque graphs? What happen to the HP one? Thats measured at the wheels I assume?

Ahhh.... what the hell!!

I will dig up the picture later on this week if I get time.

The torque diagram is the important one.... as Horsepower is just a product of torque ( horsepower = torque * RPM / 5252 )

this is a little off topic but if someone gets the c20get for the lanos how hard would the wiring be to do or how much would it cost to pay someone to do it

The C20GET wiring is fairly simple but you have to remember that's coming from me ( I'm an Electronics Eng. Tech. )

The C20GET mounts up the same way as the Lanos engine.... so it's the easiest choice for engine mounts

I honestly could light up my tires all the way through 1st gear and most of 2nd gear if I kept it spooled up.

Remember.... this is just stock numbers.... drop in a few hundred dollars and your C20GET will make something closer to 200whp and 250lb ft of torque.

Anything above that will most likely kill the poor D16 tranny.

In fact.... you might want to keep it closer to 200lbft to 220lbft unless your sure you can be gentle with the application of power.

If I get a Lanos up here I plan to make a "swap harness" so that the C20GET can be dropped into a Lanos by guys in their front yard.

It would come with simple instructions on how to integrate the C20GET into the Lanos and I would hope that most of the wiring would become "plug and play"

At about 12-14 PSI, with lower compression pistons and management, this is what it would very much look like +/- 10% or so..

227 crank hp and 169 wheel hp....isn't that a lot of parasitic loss?

i was thinking the same as aveosam...

the tranny loss is rated at about 20%

yea with those numbers thats about 26% lose, so i guess its close but still sucks to make 220+ but only have less than 200 make it to the wheels

any chance we could get the HP graph still?
