It was really difficult and took so much time to do.... well..... maybe notproudy wrote:I love your car man. I just would like to know where you got your front grill from, it is so cool.

I just ordered a Sport badge from the Lanos Sport (duh!) and stuck it in the middle of the grille.
Changes the whole look of the car for sure...

So I finally made it to the engine builders today. They are progressing well with the rebuild.
The engine is out and split apart.
Pistons will be shipped off next week to the USA so Ross Pistons can custom make some 20 thou oversized forged pistons for me Compression ratio is still under consideration...
Apparently the engine came apart amazingly well. He said it was in awesome condition still for a turbo'd engine (especially a home designed untuned one).
Bearings only had very light scoring...
Engine failure was put down to... uneven wearing of the piston rings on that cylinder. It had some glazing on the cylinder wall and the piston ended up with a fair bit of slap (so that was the noise i heard... ) When it was on boost it just wore unevenly... You can see it on the rings...
So anyway its well progressed. Once its tuned and all back together it should be great! Horespower numbers wont be huge being a small SOHC but i should be making earth moving amounts of torque

Well happy days are here!
As some of you know I had a dodgy experience with the first engine builder (including losing a sizeable deposit and some parts).
I'm with a new shop now and after another 10 week wait - MY CUSTOM ROSS PISTONS ARE IN!!!!!
They are a very boost friendly 8.0:1 - i dont know how this is going to drive but we will see!
Box of goodness!
Oh the deep dish...
Underside, mmm Ross-ige
New piston, old piston and rod that has been stress relieved, crack tested and polished.
OEM-ness
It's all getting sent away now for blueprinting and balancing. I'm just glad something is FINALLY happening with it...

It's getting a LOT of work done. I can tell you it'll be the most comprehensively worked A15SMS... Yes i know it would've been easier to drop in the 2L and tune that - but no one works on the 1.5L SOHC, i wanted to be different and see how far these engines can go!nexia-gtx wrote:what are the plans with the engine?
just rebuild it or are you gonna speed it up?
The part that i am really looking forwards to is a new polished stainless turbo manifold being made and a new big Garrett turbo too...

seems like santa came 2 months early as far as you are concerned Tim

So with the rebuild and everything getting redesigned, we looked into rebuilding and high flowing the TD04 I had.
It is a little small for what we wanted to achieve, so a new Garrett turbo was on the cards.
After much research and discussion, I decided on the Disco Potato!
GT2860RS with the smaller 0.64 turbine housing for quicker spool.
Dual ball bearing, high flow and... massive cold side
Yes... it's big...
She's finally coming together...
I'm interested to see how this reacts on the little 1.5L SOHC - based on compressor maps it should be VERY strong middle and upper...
I have to REALLY plug http://www.horsepowerinabox.com for the turbo. Morrie was VERY helpful, quick delivery and gave an unbeatable price!
