low fuel level warning light.

Post by Rodd1s »

well, first of all, luckily my car hasnt stalled yet due to running out of fuel, but something slightly concerning has caught my attention. I've never seen my low fuel level warning light come on. there has been a couple of times where the fuel gauge would go into the red, but the car still runs of course, and then i just fill it up as soon as possible. this week i had it running with the fuel gauge needle in the red for 2 days, in an attempt to see if it would come on, which it didnt.

so here's my question: where or how can I check that my low fuel level warning light is actually working? i know that it's supposed to come on when there is approx 6 litres fuel left, and im pretty sure thats around when it gets in to the red zone... but it never lights up.

not necessarly... he could have an unaccurate fuel meter and he only "thinks" he is out of fuel, mine was off that it would almost sit on the lower stopper and the earning light wouldn't come on.

for checking the bulb you got to remove the whole cluster to be able to check the bulb and see if it is fried... check the how to section to get more info about removing your cluster.

yep... you got sorta 2 triagular areas between the 3 main circles of the cluster... the warning is in the left one as far as i remember.

If you have the manual... check section 3-4. It shows all the positions for the different lights. :)

My wife allowed ours to come on one evening when she was just too tired to stop and buy gas. She warned me right when she came in the door, "We're running on vapors... I was too tired to stop." haha she knew it would be close.

Ive had the same problem, ive run my car low for days and the light never comes on. Ive changed the bulb and it stil doesnt work. Ive just left it as it is, if the needle says im low the im low. Id rather have petrol all the time in the tank than it use the rusty particles that gather in the bottom and ruin the engine.

i guess its almost like the Lanos has a second hidden fuel tank that we dont know of that prevents the fuel light from coming on. personally i dont think that my fuel warning light can be damaged, because the car has barely got 10,000 miles on it. and its in pretty much brand new condition.

The other day it had dropped below the red zone and still kept running... what do these engines run on? thin air and fumes? or are they just that efficient? either way... my low fuel light still wont come on...

one day when i decide to change over my needles and gauge faces I'll check the lights are all working.

thanx for evryone's input tho.

The red zone on the gauge is kinda an 'idiot guide' so to speak. More or less it's there to warn you that you really ought to add some fuel, but it will probably go a while longer. :)
