Yes... The 500f+ silicone is usually stiffer. In case you're wondering... I know about the silicone because it's used in making cooking utensils and it's important to know which to use for which applications. Considering you can cook an egg on hot engine, I would go with the high temp (500f) silicone if you can find it.MMamdouh wrote:i guess even if i got the 250f silicon i am still OK... are their any difference in how stiff both types are or are they the same??JohnnyC wrote:As far as I know it isn't the color of the silicone that changes it's properties. I know there is high temp silicone and low temp silicone. Beyond that I just don't know.MMamdouh wrote:i'm going to use silicon... is their a difference between black window silicon and transparent silicon in terms of durability and all??

(high temp will handle temps up to about 500 degrees farenheight, low temp will melt at about 250ish)

polyurethane comes in diffrent types than windshild glue, i have some right now that used to fill cracks in driveways and stuff. i seen it on drive ways and this stuff is hard, it's the gray stuff you see sometimes filling cracks.

OK now i got the new set of engine mounts but i got a question before i start the project:
will the stiffned mounts cause the enigne to shake the whole car?? i mean will it feel l ike an old tractor or so? or is it going to be a bit more vibrating?... my woo won't be a racing machine to ican't afford to lose too much comfort if you know what i mean.

for sure the stiffer mounts will cause more engine shakes flow to the car body
you know that when ferrari designed the ENZO one of the proplems that the engine vibrates to much so the car not comfort at all so the designed a new mount that carry the engine to reduce shakes
so in my opinion it will affect your car comfortabilty espicialy when idling

Aftermarket or Genuine
MMamdouh,
Thanks, I have seen you post on the forum, its great.
These three are Aftermarket or Genuine. I have replaced engine mounts thrice but after 6-9 months Gear and rear mount broken or soften too much.
Please advise.

i am almost finished with the silicon job and left it to dry out for almost 5 days now... the thing is i think the silicon is too soft and the mount gained ZERO stiffness.
is this normal or am i using the wrong type of silicon??

i am considering the same project but i am using liquid urethane 80A shore from mcmastercarr.com
this is going to make the mounts very stif. it is sure going to prevent wheel hopping. will update after the project is done.
i am doing just the tranny mount and lower tranny and engine mount. i'll leave the hydrahulic mount alone for now to see how it handles the extra torque.
