u20sed or c20xe?

Post by aveosam »

Alright I have a few questions about these motors....right now I own a red aveo hatch and I plan for more power but dont want to use the 1.6L id rather have a 2.0L.....I have the reasources and equipment to do pretty much anything with modifing my car since my dad is a mechanic and autobody specialist and he works at home....now I am trying to get my plan straight for what I want to do for a powerplant so I know how much money I need to get it....alright my original plan was just to get a u20sed and d20 (and ecm/wiring) for a wreched forenza, but now I ve been browsing around here some more and looking on google about the c20xe engine and I think I would rather have that instead....my reason why is: I was reading on the internet that it makes 150 bhp stock. Now is 150 bhp the same as saying the horse power to the crank? i know different measurements are used around the world and I just want to get my numbers straight because I would definitely choose the 150 hp c20xe over the 125(aroudn there) u20sed. Now my second question is about availablity....is the c20xe able to be found on the North AMerican side of the pond? If so which cars? If not, where can I get one and what is a ball park figure for to get one? My last question is what transmission would suit this better or make the ecm and wiring easier...a d16 or d20? What I am looking for by doing the swap is just a quick street car for a daily driver....just something that would blow an owners mind when they see they are getting beat by an aveo.... oh yea jk one more question....engine mounting, is there any way that the engine mounts for either the u20sed or c20xe would work in an aveo?

You would be better of sticking to a U20SED as you can get one with low mileage for cheap.

A C20XE is going to be expensive because you will have to import it from somewhere outside of North America and they use a Bosch system for controlling the engine...which might make it harder to install in your Aveo.

As well... C20XE's will be from older vehicles so you will have to do a complete rebuild.

The U20SED should bolt into the Aveo without too much work where as the C20XE would probably require custom mounts.

My U20SED is allready running nearly 150hp at the crank with very minor modifications.

I could see the U20SED pushing 170hp to 180hp at the crank with the use of some cams and higher compression.

My personal choice is a turbo U20SED.

As far as D16 vs D20..... they are nearly identical.... the D20 has more robust internals and different gearing.... other than that.... the two are nearly identical.

If I were you I'd pick up a D20 and U20SED from a Forenza.... you should be able to get the pair for less than $1000 if you search around.

alright i guess its back to plan A with the forenza engine...I was just seeing if there were any better options but the u20sed is fine for me since its pretty easy.....which tranmission is better geared for fast acceleration?

sweet deal brian. are you going to do the swap? how much is the engine you found selling for? you can get the auto motor and change the part for it to be a manual right?

Best engine ever GM buit is c20xe with coswort heads... It's restrected to 110kw (150bhp) and it have more potencial. There is younger brother c20let with few minor difference and turbo on with over 200bhp... It can be found in kadett E-GSI16V, astra mk2 gte, vectra a 2.0GT, calibra 2.0 16V, etc...

c20sed is x20xev korean copy. It's limited, with lower compresion ratio, and weaker internalls. With worse head, etc...

c20xe i older brother of x20xe and much better. It's the ultimate engine that opel have ever built. It's cheap, and for about 1k$ you can get it full rebuit and get legend to a street again... It's the engine that even forders put in their old school rebuilts...

I am i project of getting one in to my lanos sport... It would get to 170bhp in no time with powercap, fuel regulator and ECU remap... All the parts are easy to get... And the engine is mounstrous! With a lot of money STB, other internals it can get you to 350bhp without a turbo... And a simple add on would be a turbo from younger brother c20let...

This engines did 250.000miles without any repairs. And the owners drived it hard! This puppy is maybe the best engine built ever, because there is no eco restrictions in their design... There is only 1 engine better then this, and it's one found in honda s2000! ;)

I think soo...

I have c20xe in my garage. It's in parts... I have had to engine block that wasn't in best shape. I could do the rapairing on them, but it's to much money for me. So I have found engine that is in good condition. I have bought all seals, water pump, and few other things. Head is in repair shop right now, so if the head is ok, it can be reassembled again... After that, I will put it in lanos...

Mechanical part is easier. This will be done by my mechanic. Electronic part I will do myself. I have to leave lanos ECU for ABS, A/C and other stuff, and add on c20xe ECU for engine managment... Later on I will add VEMS instead of c20xe ECU...

I have pritty low budget, so money for repair parts is a problem. But this engines are so cheap in europe...

hmm I might be able to get one then if they can...my dad knows people who have family there and are into tuning cars so I might see if they could get one for reasonable price and shipping......
