I believe that is a fire resistant blanket type thing. There is one similar to it along the firewall as well. That of course is a guess since I'm not certain, but I think that's what it is. In theory it should reduce weight. But... again... it may also act as a heat spreader so your hood heats evenly?

it is a heat scheild indeed... most probably to prevent too much heat from transfering to the hood and mess the paint job or so... iwouldn't recommend removing it.

i just need to add that some lanoses that came out here didn't have that thing on and the hood did feel lighter... i still won't remove it just to keep my paint job intact.

I took it off my nubi, and I didn't have one on the firewall. I also know that some of the Lanoses didn't come with them on the firewall. Also, something to consider is that the surface area of the hood and the amount of sun exposure it sees makes the paint side far hotter than the engine bay side as far as emmissive heat. The blanket is used primarily as a flame retardant and noise suppressant... nothing more nothing less. If you take it off, your engine will seem louder.

sounds more logical... sun heats the hell out of the body in areas like here so engine heat is not that substantial compared to it... it could be a sound deadning material.

BTW my car - so as all daewoos in Egypt - didn't come with the stuff on the firewall... only the underside of the hood.

I'll just go ahead and confirm this, that stuff is a sound damper, keeps engine noise down by absorbing the sound....
a woo that is a work in progress

that big blanket is just there to reduce noise... removing it will not damage your bonnet.

one of my friends removed his one on his vauxhall/opel corsa... and it only made the engine sound louder.
