head gasket , why CEL

Post by carpetbagger »

hi newbee hear great site ,i hope someone can help me with a problem i'am having.
leganza 2001 cdx 30,000k.... blew head gasket (dont know why was'nt over heating), not really a prob as i have some mechnical experence. not able to beg borrow or steal a manual so working blind. strip down and remove the head, carefully labeling all the nuts, bolts, pipes and clips photograph all the conections. replace new gasket, fit new timing belt, set the valve timing(to the correct marks) all in all stright foward. start the car it works fine except the engine check light is on. when road tested the car hesitates or is lumpy a about 2000 revs, it feels like the auto advance/retard is'nt working.
question.. do i just reset the ECU as in the how to section will ths cure the prob
any suggestions?

I would do the ecu reset, yes. You'll get some better feedback on engine behavior soon.

I would also suggest to you that you look in the general forum for a post about a service manual (it's a sticky at the top). Inside you will find the official repair manual, but please read the entire thread before downloading!

that is the very same manual that your local daewoo shop uses. it is not a parts list... it is indeed a repair manual.

found the problem :) it was the MAP sensor, the one under the plastic box right in the middle of the injector connectors. just goes to show, if think every thing is connected double check then check again. many thanks to every one.

by the way got a manual 2000 pages of it, think i could rebuild the whole car now :chain:
