Duplicate Car Key
I just purchased a 2001 Lanos but there aren't any dealers nearby and I'd like to get a spare ignition key made. Does anyone have suggestions for stores that can make duplicates and what blank key size might be needed?

its just a regular key and can be made at any locksmith. the key that daniel is talking about is more for BMW and such luxury brands

Lanos 1.6 DOHC, 2000. Have imobilizator, and therefore it's not a regular key...DomWoo wrote:Daniel wrote:Your car has more than probably a anti-theft system and ignition keys contain a coded transponder. Make simple key copy, and try to start the car with it. If it works, great. But if it doesn't work, you have imobilizator...

i had that on my car.. it has nothing to do with the key.. when you have a coded key.. you would know it. it actually has a chip sticking off the key like mofo stated.. but you could be right.. maybe other countries had more of a demand for something like that and daewoo decided to spend more money on those cars for those countries
does your key look like this??
Shape of the key doesn't matter. Inbedded key transponder can be very small.DomWoo wrote:

The immobilizer module I have is attached under the steering column. It cuts ignition, injection and fuel pump if a wrong key is used.
I think immobilizer is standard equipment here in Europe.

Thanks for the tips everyone. My car didn't have the immobilizer unit, so I just needed a plain duplicate key. I tried WalMart, Home Depot, and ACE Hardware and none of them could match the key blank. I had read somewhere on here a 27R would work but the length was different from my original key and the little automated key-making machines these places have wouldn't take it.
Ended up taking the car into a nearby Isuzu dealership that also works on Daewoos and found out their parts department could also make Daewoo keys. Yippee.
