intake

Post by blueoptra »

Ok I see people making cold air intakes out of pvc tubing.

1 How do they sound

2 are the louder than stanless pipe

3 is the stainless pipe what makes the louder intake nouse?

My intake is pretty loud. It might sound different then a stainless steel one, but it works and sounds awesome. :D

well my budys delsol is super loud and i an just wondering how loud
a pvc intake would do compared to my rubber elbow replacing resonator
and then a pvc 90 to a short stainless to a cone filter its loud but not enough
would a full pvc be louder?

Why have you got multiple different pipes. I say just go with the pvc, you will get i deeper sound i believe.

Well my car is loud enough with my exaust setup i have done. But i found i got a better sound from my engine and a deeper sound than louder which is more what i wanted.

i don't think the loudness difference is significant... anyways we used to scare the hell out of people with the 2.0 Nubira and its full PVC CAI intake, comparing it to the sound in the vid. i say the our PVC is louder at higer RPM.

ok I think I might make one out of pvc.
But does anybody have any more pics?
Should there be any rubber mounts besides
the one on the throtle boodie? I would realy
apreciate pictures of full pvc systems!
Were is the cold air sensor on the intake
from 360 dynamics?

Also how much hp gain would I get if I
removed the cat under the hood and put
in one of those straight pipes? Will this
set off Cel ?!!!!

If you take a look at my pics you can see the air sensor on the side of the pipe near the throttle body. Its fairly close to where it was in the stock intake.
open the full image to actually see it.

Going straight pipe (regardless of the type of material) is going to be louder than the stock rubber tube.
I havent done physics in a while but i imagine it'll be something to do with the airflow of the straight pipe.

The stock rubber tube has little corrugations (the little ribs for extra pleasure ;) ). These affect direct smooth airflow (not heaps).
So a straight pipe will probably have
* smoother airflow
* different air capacity since it'll more than likely be longer since it's probably attached to a pod filter
* a different resonating frequency since the intake path is smoother and has more capacity

For a NA application - try to avoid using 90deg bends, these kill flow.
Above all on NA you are trying to get the most amount of air into the engine with the smoothest flow.
