Mechanic says the other camshaft lobes were ok and not as worn as the #3. But he doesn't think it has been caused by sticky valves or any other internal fault and says he has seen wear to only one lobe on similar Vauxhall GM engines without anything wrong which would cause it to wear more than the others. I've left it with him to sort out so it should be fixed sometime next week.

Should be getting it back sometime this week as the machanic has been on holiday.
Here's another handy tip. I laughed when I herd it
To check if you have any exhaust valve problems and you have not got the correct tools, remove the sparkplugs and connect a household vacuum cleaner to the exhaust. Rotate the engine till one cylinder is at TDC and feel for suction through the plug holes. If there's suction when the exhaust valves should be closed you can figure out which cylinder valve is faulty.
You can do the same to find a faulty intake valve by putting the vacuum cleaner on blow and connect it to your Inlet TB with open throttle. It's handy to know if you have not got specialist tools available. But you might get some funny looks from your neighbour by sticking the vacuum cleaner up the cars tailpipe
