Engine idling high...

Post by PoTsUrFrIeNd »

I have a 2004 chevrolet aveo with a 1.6l and intermittantly it will idle high (between 1500-2000rpm's) after faster than normal acceleration. it will eventually go away after I stop-it varies from a few seconds to a few minutes. No ecl is emitted and the engine does not run poorly or anything...I have checked the throttle linkage and cables and they are a-ok. Please let me know if you guys know anything.

you might want to check your idle control screw, if it is either a little loose or if it is too tight it could be causing that.

or it could have something to do with your actual throttle body being gummed up.

+1

always check the IAC to see if it is dirty or so... most probably it is full of dirt and that affects its operation... look in the how to section to find out how to do that.

I do have a cai....an actual one that I just recently modified to its current status....but I have almost always had an intake(one other than stock) and never had any problems since the first time this problem arose about 10000 miles ago - I did take it into the dealer then and was told nothing was wrong, now the car has 39000 miles on it and they will not honor the factory warranty when the complaint generated under it. go figure!

I took the intake off for a sec to spray some gumout down the throat of the intake and I cleaned out the immediate surfaces with a wrag. the whole night I noticed that it did it wuch less and when it did...it returned back to regualr idle much quicker than before. so that is the problem, if I take it apart, is there any modifications that can be done to it to improve performance, and are there any aftermarket ones available for better performance??
