I have an idea I heard i guy at my local circle track who i race with did and I'm debating on what it would do to my street car or even be worth it.
my question is: the o2 sensor sends a signal of a certian ammount of volts to the ECM to tell it too richen teh mixture or lean it out a little more, but is that signal pretty much constant if the engine is running fine between 1000RPM and 7000RPM?
Because I had the idea of hooking up the wires to the 02 sensor up to a variable switch, like a volume control dial kind of thing, so i can manually adjust the voltage sent to the ECM and change the A/F ratio on command. of course i would need a A/F meter to watch my A/F ratio while doing this so i know how to adjust it and dont lean it out and detonate or something.
Just curious what everyone thinks of the ides and if its worth it. I think it would be great for tunning to get the A/F ratio were u want it, but i dont know what else this voltage affects in the motor. You would almost never use this tho once u had it dial in to were u want but it would be easy to adjust if you ever changed anything and would be easlier to dial in to wee u want it.
tell me what you think, any problems with this idea or sugestions to make it work better

not really sure about this but i think the MAP sensor is the one to tune for such trick.
our cars run in closed loop operating state or so and the O2 sensor is not that "elastic" when it comes to tuning fuel mixture, the MAP on the other side is the main contoller in this equation but i am not familiar with the method used to play with its signal.
beware that you can easly lean the mixture too much and blow your engine.

ECU doesn't use o2 all the time. It uses O2 sensor only on normal running with a little throtle opened from 2 to 4krpm. Only for normal driveing... It acctualy corects predefenied maps that coresponds to MAP redeings. So, it uses mixure defined in map, and litlle bit corrects a map with O2 sensor. BUT! When you press it hard (thtotle opened full) it disables O2 sensor and run it only on MAP and predefined map with about 30% higher mixture (boost). So you will get NOTHNG with that...
To gain some power with piggyback (it is minimal) you have to make some changes on exhust, inlet, and other mechanical parts... Then with adding some piggyback that will simulate colder air in inlet or putting engine in cold engine mode with get some more gasoline in cylinders... BUT! You have to make this simulation only when ECU disables O2 readings, and that is when throtle opened full and engine rews more that 4500rpm...
I have made something like this and there are some resaults. But you can't even feel this modification on 1.5 or 1.6 with about 100HP... To feel this mod you have to have 2.0 engine with 150HP, where the gain would be maybe 10 or more HP...

Maybe it was the map sensor he did it with then. that would work, I found an interesting site http://www.robietherobot.com/storm/mapsensor.htm theres a chart at the bottom that tells you what each voltage is at. only problem i can see is if you made it manul it wouldnt change as u accelerate and such.
