C20NE
C20XE
C20LET

In ascending order of power (not sure how much the NE does, the XE = 110kw, the LET = 150kw.)

Don't bother with anything less.

Price? LOTS.

Can any of these be found that are new or rebuilt from someplace? Just curious what kind of availability there is on engines like those?

Or... What kinds of cars should I be looking for when I'm wandering through my local junk yards?

C20XE
C20NE
C20LZ
C20GET
C20LET
X20XEV
Z20LET
Z20LEH
U20SED
T20SED...... the list goes on and on and that's just the 2.0L engines.

There are also various 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.2L four cylinder engines that will fit

There are also 2.5L, 3.0L and 3.2L "Compact" V6 motors which will fit.

In my opinion there are too many choices..... so you really need to answer the following questions to narrow down the choices.

1 ) How much horsepower are you looking for?
2 ) Do you want a turbo engine or a naturally aspirated engine?
3 ) Is it a daily driver or a "show" car
4 ) How much money do you have to spend on the project

1. Lots (or plenty more then I have)
2. Naturally Aspirated I think... Worried the turbo will kill the life of the car.
3. Will be a daily driver.
4. Unknown amount. Best bang for the buck I'd say.

vectras... there is also a 2.6L v6 (very similar to the 2.5). Did you think about the 2.6L 4 from the isuzu rodeo?? They have been used in geminis before and can be turboed

The Z series, and the V6's just WON'T fit in a 1.5i (I don't think so, anyway. Or if it did, it'd require some hardcore modification.)

For straight swaps without turbo, C20XE is your best shot. 110kw in a car under a tonne, and you're laughing. Hello MX-5? Goodbye MX-5.

The stock DOHC is what? 100kw? I don't understand the 'kw' vs. 'hp'. :)

Z-series motors are basically T20SED with a turbo manifold...so since Intimidator put 2.0/2.2 into Lanos, Z-series will fit. And since V6's fit in Astra mk2 (Lanos' engine bay is nearly identical), V6 will fit too.
