Timing belt replacment Qs

Post by kinkyllama »

I went to the dealer to get the water pump, two idler pulleys, and the tensioner. The dealer wanted nearly $400 for all of this. I'm pretty sure most people here got there kits with the belt and w/o the pum for under $200 so it seams a rip off to me.

Anyways, anyone know where I can get this stuff for the forenza?

Also about how much will a shop charge for the replacment of all this stuff?

Not sure what it costs for the forenza. My Lanos kit was about $98 with shipping (without a water pump).

I was quoted around $270 to $310 or so by a couple shops just for the install of the part. So... Maybe they're giving you the same deal I was being quoted since I was bringing my own parts.

Honestly it sounded like too much to me, so I decided I will do it myself. I haven't started it yet, but just thought I would give you an idea (or at least in the ballpark). :D

Doesn't the Forenza use the same Pump/Timing kit as the Nubira? If so, you should be able to get all of it for about $200 off of ebay.

I recently got my timing belt and pump changed for about $100, since my mechanic is well versed with my car. However, count on about $150-$200 for the change.

Got everything, including another belt for only $250 shipped; the dealer wanted like $350. Plus maybe I can sell the belt and get a few bucks.

thanks guys!
