ive been hearing this high pitched buzzing sound emanating from the back of my lanos, i think its coming from the left rear of the car but im not sure. I cant think of what might make that sound that isn't in the engine bay. i only hear it when the engine is on and revs don't change a thing.
anybody know what this might be? it's annoying the crap out of me.
hmmmm I have experienced hearing a high pitched hissing sound from near the back of my Lanos... but I wouldn't call that a buzzing sound. Not sure what it is in my case either.
Could potentially be an exhaust leak, or a faulty fuel pump. Those are the only two objects capable of producing noise near the back of the car, unless there is a furry woodland creature somewhere in your car.
yes I do hear the noise when the cars not moving, and I do hear it when i first start the car up in the morning, but it seams to continue even after driving for a few minutes. sounds like jonny c has the same problem. could definitely be the fuel pump, sounds like an electric motor whirring.
Pop the lower cushion of the back seats. Simply pull up on it and it'll detach from the pins. Underneath it, you'll see a round black plastic cover that leads to the fuel pump. Run your car and see if the sound is coming from there.
thats the sound of the fuel pump for sure... the very first lanoses that came out in Egypt came with fauly fuel pumps and they were noisy as hell... luckly i replaced it under warranty.
Hmmm my fuel pump makes only a slight hissing noise from outside the car if you listen very closely. Everything seems fine so I doubt mine is in great need of replacment.
WannabeRacer wrote:other than the noise, what signs should I look out for that might mean a shity pump? I can ignor it if it wont cost me anything.
Well if the car is running, and you can put up with the noise, of course you can ignore it. But generally, when car parts start to make strange noises, they are in the waning moments of they're lives, and it is only a matter of time before you get stranded somewhere.
i'll tell you what i have had my lanos for 5 years and from the day i drove it off the lot i have heard noises that would drive you crazy. i figure most off them have to do with injection molded plastic interior panels with nothing to silence the noise coming from vibration. hell even the seat belt makes a noise. turn the radio up and fogetaboutit.

if you can forget about the noise then do nothing about it... i suggest you get a new pump 'cause a noisy pump will die some day but we don't know when, it could be on the next week end or after 3 years.
you are going to need a pump eventually so buy one and keep it as a spare in the ar, if the stock one tirs the car will stop immediatly and you will be stuch wherever you are, pump replacment won't take 15 min.
seems more tempting solution that calling some one to tow you away then buy a pump and hire someone to replace it
