Got a scan tool but having problems!
hi guys... Zikas got this scan tool off http://www.scantool.net/ and we tried to use it on the Nubira but it is not reading a damn thing
the tool we got is compatable with the car, it reads ISO protocols and the Nubira ECU uses ISO protocol... right? the socket itself got plugged on the OBDII port on the car and the box thing started to power up and flash and all but all the readings on the diagnosis software didn't read a single value.
we kept on getting this error: BUS INIT: ...ERROR
http://www.scantool.net/support/index.p ... ticleid=31
we followed the flow chart and reached nothing... actually i am begining to think the ECU protocol is not compatable with the tool but i am not qualifyed to say that, you know my electronics knowledge sucks.
what the hell is the deal with that tool? are we doing something wrong? is this a comptability issue? i got no idea and the frustration is sky high.
here is the basic data that you can use to help me fighure this out:
Car:
origonally had a 1.6 16 valve engine and it is running with one CAT, one O2 sensor and no cam position sensor... i don't have the code for that engine now but i recon it can be something like C16SED.
for the 2.0 swap we got a T20SED and we hooked it up to the 1.6 ECU so we still using one O2 sensor and no cam position sensor (as far as i understand we transformed the T20SED to C20SED... right??)
the scan tool:
an ElmScan ISO interface package:
http://www.scantool.net/products/elmscan_iso.htm
we didn't have a serial port on the IBM laptop so we got a serial-to-USB converter to let it work, on every software used the connection is established but we got no readings whatsoever... only the BUS INIT: ...ERROR
software:
used various OBDII scans, diagnostics, readers, HP calculators and all gave the same error.
please help guys, we are running out of ideas here... we are going to try the scan tool on a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer to make sure it works, we found out that the socket on the Lanos is not compatable with the tool's cable (i.e. socket on lanos no like Nubira) so we are going to try a different car, also we are going to try it on a stock Nubira to see if this issue due to the different engine we got on the car.
please guys, any opinions or ideas are welcomed.

check iso version issues? there are 3 types listed on that site , i lost my link but you can find what iso commands it sends, but i sounds like a bad connection, or data interface issue

so far we tried the following:
tried to scan the Mitsubishi and got the same error.
tried to do the pin assignment manually and we got the same error.
tried to scan the Lanos (ALDL) and we got some scrambled readings that were not cosistan
one thing we noticed though on the nubira socket; the markings on the socket are in the reverse direction... meaning if pin 1 on the cable is the first one on the left top row then the no. 1 pin on the car's socket is the first one on the right top row... could be this the issue we got??

Kan,kan wrote:Try EFIlive V.4 soft . Nubira has got data line ( ISO K+L) on pin 9 in OBDII socket.
Did you tried that?
I've also the ELM ISO interface and on my Nubira year 2000 it ended up with the same "Init error". I thinked that the K-line was on pin 7 .
BTW the OBD connector (J1962) on my car has contacts on:
2:
4: chassis ground.
5: signal ground.
6:
7:
9:
12:
16: +12V
Can you name those missing?
Thks,
Daniel
tryed the scanner on an stock 1.6 nubira with auto tranny and we got some readings... seems the wiring on the 2.0 is not correct.
still searching for the problem...

Yes, I did. I'm using interface based on max232 connected to pins 4,16(power supply) and 9 (data). I know also that short curcuit between pins 5 and 6 cause blinking of engine light which use to read error codes. But I haven't it tested yet.Daniel wrote: Did you tried that?

By the way, have you got manual for Nubira? I'm looking for electrical diagrams especially. I have manual but without diagrams.
OK thanks. Before I try pin 9 as K-data line I would trace it to be sure that this wire comes on the ECU and not on the airbag module. My ECU has two connectors, one red one white, has serv n?: 16238981 C6 C66309S 190962205 YAAC C6 on the sticker. Don't know the brand.
For the diagrams all I have come from the net. Here are the links I've used:
http://chevy.mrmax.dp.ua/EN/GMDE_TIS_START.html is down since three days.
http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/ ... cetti.html still working
http://www.daewooclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=3930 and this one
I've never found any ECU internal diagram.
Thanks again for sharing,
Daniel

we have tried a 2.0 ECU on the 2.0 engine... nothing has changed on the scan tool side nor on the performace side, actually the car consumed more fuel with the 2.0 ECU.

nothing changed whatsoever with the 2.0 ECU except for fuel consumption... it was worse.kan wrote: But what about performance?
would you be kind enough to share it with us?Fortunatly I have found a manual for Nubira II(2001).
