Na sunbird performance?

Post by NAsunbird »

wasup guys....i have a 1993 pontiac sunbird with the 2 liter ohc engine....its the same one as the turbo sunbird just NA. I was wondering if anyone knew of any performance modifications i can do besides intake and exhaust. Are there any companies that offer parts for my engine. I would really apreciate some suggestions.

;) Ummmm... you must not be paying attension to engine swaps........ the 2.0L 8V Turbo a 1990 Sunbird GT Turbo fits the Lanos..... and a 2000 Leganza T22SED fits the Sunbird.... and the 2.0L 8V NA from an 87 Sunbird fits my 2004 Optra 5.

Basicly..... the 2.0L 8V, 2.0L 8V Turbo, 2.0L 16V, 2.0L 16V Turbo, 2.2L 16V, 1.6L 16V, 1.6L 8V, 1.8L 16V, 1.5L 8V, 1.5L 16V, 1.4L 16V are all interchangeable in the Lanos, Lemans, Optima, Astra MK2,MK3, Kadett E, Nubira, Leganza, Lacetti, Aveo, Racer, Nexia, Optra, Optra 5, Swift, Forenza, Reno, Sunbird, Grand Am, Calibra, Vectra, Corsa, Nova and a few billion other GM cars. :smt045

You should look on forums in the UK...... like Migweb and AstraMK2.... the 2.0L 8V is very common over there.

So what do you want to do to your NA 2.0L 8V ???

There are lots of upgrades.... just depends on where you want to go with your engine.

How much power are you looking for?

I wouldn't say that.... they are all different versions of a classic Opel engine design (or Holden if you want)

I knew it was a pontiac, but didn't know if there was some deal where Daewoo was actually doing the building or what?

Anyway... I have only barely been watching the threads on engine swaps. I'm no where near the point where I'll get into that kind of thing. I had no idea that so many engines were interchangeable. :)

Yup.... piles of engines..... litterally dozens of them.... different compression ratios, different cylinder heads, different injection types

Pontiac used the Opel 1.8L 8V in the early Sunbirds and then moved to the 2.0L 8V in 1987.... and 87 was the first year for the 2.0L 8V Turbo.

I think they used the 2.0L 8V in the Pontiac Sunbird, Grand Am, Lemans up until 1993 then they switched to engines like the Quad 4 and V6

The original Sunbird was actually pretty small and light..... as the years rolled on they got heavier and heavier and required larger engines.

The big picture is that you don't have a Daewoo anything..... you have a GM International chassis and powertrain.

What Daewoo is really responsible for is the exterior and interior styling the rest is GM

Daewoo is an assembly/manufacturing plant.... and yes they do make the parts there.... but the parts are mostly made from GM molds and equipment.

By the way.... I like your Avatar... it's cool

The only thing that is common between the Daewoo vehicles and the Sunbird is the engine..... they have different transmissions.... the Sunbird used a Getrag 282 5spd in the Turbo Sunbird/Grand Am but it's not the same as our european D16/F16D20/F20 Getrag transmissions.

The Naturally aspirated Sunbird used an Isuzu 5spd gearbox..... and I can't remember the auto tranny.... I think it was a TH125C.... but I can't be sure.

Actually, all the Daewoo's were designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, an Italian car designer who's responsible for some of my favorite cars of all time. So really... Daewoo was pretty much the assembly/manufacturing plant... and organizer of the whole deal, of course.

and thanks... Made it last night. :)
