Cam Position Sensor

Post by delphis »

hey I just got my engine scanned due to a CEL and it was the C.P.S. with a low output or bad connection code. I was wondering what page in the service manual has the information on this or if someone can post a picture of where it is located it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

the cam position sensor is located between the cam gears... its socket is facing upwards and protruding from behind the gears.

on my nubi, i had to remove the timing belt to replace the CPS... or i got my favorite asian car buddy of mine to do it with his small hands... we got it back in there without having to take anything off... I hope it's not that hard for you guys and your lanos's.. but for mine the screw holding it down was under the cam gear things... and we were in no hurry to take off my timing belt...

On my Leganza, you have to remove the timing belt cover to access the sensor, which also means doing everyhitng but removing the timing belt. It was a pain in the ass alone, so thats why i went ahead and replaced the belt and accessories while I was at it.

My C.P.S. is reporting the low input or what have you as well... I heard it was a recall part though. Seems like the prices have been pretty high on those from what I've seen.

so I just pulled off the connection to the sensor is there anything down inside that might be in need of some cleaning inside of the valve cover? are there certain torque specs that the valve cover should be tightened to and if so how would I know how much torque I am providing if I am doing it by hand?

Umm....Those sensors arent too expensive. You can either buy a factory part, which will always fail, or you can buy one from souther auto/ napa, someplace like that for cheap, and have it fail just as regularly as well. It's not really difficult to replace, just labor intensive like on my car. Lots of peices to take off and put back on. But maybe thats only on leganzas.
