Washing OEM air filter ***PICS***
hi all
i was a bit bored at home so i decided to try this... i washed my old OEM air filter.
i saw so many aftermarket filters gets washed and oiled so i though i give the old OEM filter a try... i washed it with cold water and washing machine soap and it seems the idea is working rather well
the filter gave away loads of dirt by just wrensing it with water and then when soap was added the dirt became more and more... afterwards i washed it with water again and i am letting it to dry now... will post pics when it is done.
sorry i know this is not a brilliant idea but i was bored as hell

You must have been really bored! Do you have an aftermarket intake
or are you just walking around the garage cleaning whatever you can get your hands on?

i don't have an intake... yet, i was just messing arround in my closet - don't have a garage - and i cam across this old air filter and the idea just hit me.TxDAEWOOxT wrote:You must have been really bored! Do you have an aftermarket intake

i am planning for a cone filter but i have to make a decoy so that my dad doesn't see the filter... he will freak out if he saw those cone filters on his car ... so most probably i will try to make that decoy on the other old filter that i have in case the "washing" project is a success.

If you're just walking around washing things because you are bored, I think I'll drive my Lanos over to your place!
Let me think how I'd do that....
Drive north west across the U.S. and Canada to Alaska and try to get my car on a boat across the Bering Sea to Russia, then drive all the way acorss Russia, then down through Turkey, Seria, Jordan, Isreal and then into Egypt.
I think my car really would need to be washed after that drive!

here are the pics... both filters was similarly dirty before the wash and both were used for some 10k kms only:

except for the little fluffy stuff on the back i'd say the filter survived the test intacked... it still hold its shape and got no ruptured areas or anything.
only problem is it took so long to dry... after 24 hours i had to dry it with a blower for some 10 min.

I don't know why but I think It would be a better idea to cross the USA, get a boat to spain, and then through africa to the east... than crossing russia.TheGreatAndPowerfulOz wrote:If you're just walking around washing things because you are bored, I think I'll drive my Lanos over to your place!

bring your pets as well man, i love cats... not sure about the dog though as last time i saw his cage is looks huge.TheGreatAndPowerfulOz wrote:Those look pretty good. They are usable if you need a filter.
When I drive back to the US I'll have to have someone else wash my car, too.
I can't say in Egypt, my cat and dogs would miss me too much!
