I really don't know man, I'm out of options. Go to a junk yard or salvage yard and pick up a starter for $50. It is an easy enough fix.

had that as well when my battry died... also note that yuo will end up with this same setuation if you alternator dies, the car will consume all the power stored in the battry till it is drained to the bones.

to make sure which component is the dead one you got to get the car running some how (bump tart it or so) then use an avometer to test the alternator... on idle the voltage is some 11 to 12V but when you rev the engine the voltage should go up to 13 to 14V.

if the voltage is the same no matter how you rev your engine then your alternator is dead and the car will eventually consume the battry's power then die... if you get higher reading with revving then the alternator is fine and the battry is dead... the car is good for driving but you won't be able to start it unless you bump it.

the dead alternator could have been the reason that the car died getting on the highway.drained all the juice from the battery and died.

Not if it died suddenly, of a seized bearing, a broken/slipped belt, or quick burnout.

I'm still convinced it isn't the starter, but who knows.

i went and looked at the car today and the belt was still on.so that ruled out the broken belt.now what is that talk of a seized bearing?i know the rear main was leaking.could that bearing cause the car to die if it seized?if that is worst case what would have to be done to fix the seized bearing?would that be a new motor or would the motor be salvagable?would that cause the starter not to engage on the flywheel?i hope im not the next person to be banned for asking all the stupid questions.i know how the motor works but when it comes to diagnosing im a little retarded.i really want to thank everybody for your posts!

maybe the bulb is just not working... the light should come in when the engine is off and starter key in position 2
